Latest new NVR4XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_ V4.001.0000005.1.R.201126

Thanks for reply, @wittaj

They told me this NVR is Dahua Chinese original model but installed Vietnamese firmware. I just want to use English GUI since it is familiar in configuration so just upgrade once.
I understand that upgrading is my own risk so I'd like to check if anyone here upgraded this kind of NVR before. I have only this NVR at the moment so just want to have a checking.

From my experience, we can backup current firmware so that we can reinstall it when we face an issue during upgrading. Is there that kind of tool for Dahua NVR?

Thanks again!

I bought cameras and NVR from Andy back in the day, and I haven't dared to upgrade the firmware because my cameras were in hard-to-get locations in case something went wrong, but now that I am moving soon, I removed all my cameras and thought now it's time to upgrade the firmware for all my cameras and NVR, starting from NVR.

So, I guess my question is that although it is said not to upgrade the firmware straight to the latest version (my NVR says System Version: 3.216.0000000.0, Build Date: 2018-06-05 ), is it because it will really brick the NVR or was the warning only because you could lose connection to cameras? Now that there are no cameras connected, is it safe to upgrade to the latest version although current firmware is from 2018...? Or do I lose access to stored videos on NVR and/or brick the NVR so I cannot repair it anymore?

EDIT: Did not want to try my luck (after all, Mr. Murphy is well-known to me :) ), so I decided to do exactly like @seanw7 did and updated one after another, to the latest version (July 2021). Everything went fine, although I had to switch browser from Pale Moon (which I only used for Dahua NVR anyway) to Chrome that I otherwise use anyway, so that was positive change. Now the same for cameras :)

I'm just confirming for anyone interested that updating my 5 year old Dahua NVR5208-4KS2 (V1.0) to the newest firmware went without a hitch.

The latest firmware from Dahua's wiki DL site was released last month - DH_NVR5XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000006.1.R.210709

I had only updated the firmware once before, and was on a 3 year old V4 20190809. I first installed an intermediate 21010 version instead jumping directly to the newest. It probably wasn't needed since it was already on a V4 firmware, but seemed like a good thing to do to follow Andy's advice!

Prior to the update, I didn't do a full factory reset, but I did select reset of all functions except NETWORK config. That worked fine and I was able to immediately reconfigure everything from Chrome via NVR's WebUI using the original IP without having to deal with a very awkward default subnet/IP. I did not reload the backup config, as it was trivial to re-add just 5 cameras and start with a clean slate.

One nice improvement is my Amcrest AD410 doorbell is properly supported via the NVR and adds additional configuration capabilities that SmartHome app lacks.

Thanks Gary

But attention, this link fw is for model NVR42XX-4KS2

Thanks Andy for letting me know I mistakenly posted to the wrong firmware topic. I'll copy it to the right one.
All ok, no problem, that is great to know your NVR can be updated without any problem. :)

Any one having disk errors with this firmware? I had to restart NVR several times for beeping to stop. This is brand new HDD btw. Im thinking of rolling back if possible.

Here are the models that suit this firmware.( Attention only -4KS2 model can use this firmware. )
Please be very careful before you make the update if your nvr firmware is still in 2017 or 2018, very easy brick your NVR.

We would need little more detail.

Were you updating the firmware and this was the result?

I am only guessing here but it look like an incomplete firmware update and what it look like in the photo are variables to a missing language pack.

Did something happened during update or were you updating it over the wireless?

Hey Andy, is this still the recommend/latest firmware for the DHI-NVR408-8P-4KS2? i noticed it says 2021 not 2022.

More exactly about this problem (recognizing camera)
-v3216 working
-v4000 working (including latest DH_NVR4XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.000.0000001.5.R.191218.bin)
-v4001 not working (DH_NVR4XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000003.1.R.200813.bin, DH_NVR4XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000005.1.R.201126.bin)
Camera IPC-HDW5231R-ZE) is upgraded to last version 16.

I had the same issue.

v4001 doesn't recognise my cameras (IPC-HDW4631EM-ASE updated to latest firmware)

The latest I NVR firmware I can upgrade to with the cameras working is DH_NVR4XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.000.0000001.5.R.191218.

Tonight I tried DH_NVR4XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000005.1.R.210713 on my NV4116-HS and once again, a new firmware KILLS MOTION DETECTION for all my ONVIF cameras. I rolled back to DH_NVR4XXX-4KS2_MultiLang_V4.001.0000000.1.R.200319 and all is well again.
