Hi All

Long time lurker, new registration and first post so take it easy on a old bloke.

Like a few around here I have found myself with a LaView NewEgg kit , 4 cams, nvr + cables etc.
Seems ok for the price, but no documentation as such but easy enough to setup if you have done one or two systems prior. The cams all fire up ok, and I have added 4 different types of dahua's to the nvr from a separate local network ip/poe including one ptz without an issue as well.

The cams are laview lv-pb3040wc 4MP 1/3" sensor 4mm, these "appear" to be the DS-2CD10432G0-I-2 Hikvision 4MP Outdoor Bullet Camera, H.265+ 30m IR, IP67 from what I can see, and we have firmware and notes at ftp://ftp.hikvisioneurope.com/Product Firmware 2018/Front-ends/IP Camera/G0 platform(1X43G0)/1X43G0/V5.5.3_Build171221/IPC V5.5.3 G0 Release Note--External.pdf for those interested.

One point to note was the default cam passwords, trial and error + google = admin/a12345678

The NVR is Laview LV-N9508Q8E has 8 poe, 1 sata only, uses a 48v plugpack, specs say 80meg/80meg etc and has a "spec sheeet" here https://www.laviewsecurity.com/files/datasheet/LV-N9508Q8E.pdf

This has what looks like rebranded hik software, v3.4.97 Build 180328

The actual unit (and pic in the pdf) looks like a new version of a
Hikvision [OEM] DS-7608NI-K2/8P (DT608-H2/P8) 4K NVR 8CH BUILT-IN POE Interface 8 POE PORTS 2 SATA, on several sites and rebranded from vendors or the good old brown box special.

View attachment 36726

Notable is 1 vs 2 sata as well as plugpack vs mains, hd vs 4k, well lets just say they look similar!

My question is:
Does anyone know what the NVR model is equal with or the actual model from HIK or HiWatch ?

Just looking to see if its worth flashing the cams and nvr to hik.

And yes I searched the forums and googled away for a couple of days and each time I thought I had it the specs did not match.

So feel free to chime in and give me your 2 cents worth about the system, yes its a cheap starter pack, but I have 4 decent dahua's for the important spots. I can network, do wiring, build setup and repair hardware, have a servers, synology nas and more than enough pc's ssds and storage to have BI up and running, BUT plugging a system like this together takes almost minutes and the wife factor kicks in straight away, and she can use and view it easily.

Cheers have a good xmas and so forth from a Ozzie down under.

Updated with more information, just need to let google translate this page.

Thanks, assumed all HIK anyway, was hoping to get a proper confirmation on the NVR actual model, with the aim to firmware change from LaView over to HIK.
I may just have a go soon, try to match as close as possible with what I have found out on the web so far.
If it goes bad then Blue Iris will be my fall back I guess as I don't think I can get a copy of LV firmware to be able to restore.

fwiw LaView recently updated their nvr firmware. When asking them the differences it was sound of crickets and a warning that if I do choose to upgrade and if anything goes wrong and bricks the system that they will not repair it. :/

It'd be nice also to hear from someone who upgraded to see if it's worth the risk.

Hi

That's the same as I have from out of the box, it all works ok but would be nice to junk LV and just use HIK.
I may still have a go and see what the result is, been over busy with work and visitors over the last few weeks, no time for my stuff or hobbies.
The system is still sitting in my study and have not wired or mounted any cams yet, 8 in total to run.

I did ask about firmware this is what I got back.

Hello,

These are recent model number units so a firmware is not available yet. All units are shipped with the most up to date firmware version. Please check back in approximately 3 months.

Did you ever flash Hikvision firmware on your cameras or NVR? I'm looking into doing the same for a install I did for a friend. We installed the exact kit you bought from Newegg. Thanks!

Any update on whether you were able to update the Laview NVR to the HiK firmware?

Were you able to update to a Dahua firmware?

All information you need is here (note the JST pinout is incorrect in my case Pin 1 is +3.3v) Hikvision - Clearing Passwords and/or Loading Firmware via TTL Serial
See below colors for correct connection.

Msg me if you need a JST connector. They sell it in packs of 10 and it takes forever to arrive from China.

The update command (after ctrl+u) is: setenv bootcmd ';update'
