LaView NVR HDD Upgrade question

Looking to add space to my POE NVR, it’s a LaView LV-N7508D8E. I can’t seem to find anything online about it (looks like LaView is out of the NVR business). But I’m interested in either replacing and upgrading the current 2TB internal HDD or adding an External HDD.

Is the internal one just a swap out and format or does it require something more? I’m not even sure the size of HDD this NVR can handle.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

The brain of the NVR is on the motherboard, so it is simply swap out the HDD and format it.

I would think you could probably double, maybe triple the drive without an issue.

I was thinking that maybe the brain was on the motherboard but didn’t want to dive in and mess stuff up.

I took the cover off and only seen the factory installed HDD plugged directly into the motherboard, are there extra ports on the motherboard or would it just require cables or jumper wires?

I’ve built PCs but never had a reason to mess with an NVR.

Oh wow every NVR I ever changed HDDs had cables like in a PC.

I would guess you would need to find compatible cables unless the plugs on the HDD would match the configuration of the motherboard.

I’ll take a picture tomorrow when I’m near the NVR, but I just watched a video and the one they were doing seemed more like a computer as well with separate cables. I’m going to at least order a lager HDD and get that on way.

Thank you! You have helped a ton already.

Looks like I’m limited to a one drive unless I use an external plugged into the USB.

What size drive were you planning to use in it?

Just about any size should work unless you're going very large.
Remember when a NVR manufacturer says the NVR supports up to XTB drive, that just means either that was the highest available at that time or they only tested up to that high.

It doesn't necessarily mean it can't support it.

It is just a cut down PC after all.

I have a 2TB HDD I was thinking 6TB or 8TB because they aren’t crazy expensive. I’m gunna probably replace this system in a year or two so I don’t want to invest too much into it. Currently I get about 2 weeks of storage since I have the cameras set to record only when movement is detected. And we are open roughly 8-10 hrs 5 days a week.

I really like the size of the cameras that came with it as they stand out in the bar setting, but have had trouble finding other POE cameras to add since I have 8 POE ports and could possibly add more network cams.

You can buy a 6TB or an 8TB but depending on the age of the NVR you might wanna be prepared to repartition it to 4TB if it's not recognized.
