Looking at getting one of these. I would want a smaller system like a Lenovo M93p, or maybe a HP Elitedesk 800 G1 but the T140 and T440 seem very affordable (about 300-350 bucks)

How would the lenovo T140 handle my setup? I'm running version 4 with 4 hikvisions running at 1080, one geeya 801c at 720 and one foscam at 480 (everything runs at 15fps with triggered recording. I would like to be able to have all record without issue too though. They are also all direct to disc which really helps alot on taking it easy on CPU). It's really putting a strain on my old laptop that I use as a 'camera server' that thing is full blast non stop lol. It serves it's purpose, but would something bit more smooth running.

I thought the price of a T440 at $300 on amazon, or T140 for $340 (plus hard drive) is pretty good and I believe will handle my needs easily

Thoughts?

Remember that you need to add the OS to the price of those systems...
Either of those systems with the xeon processor can handle your load....the ts440 is pretty large though.
Note also that dell is having an outlet sale..check out the dell outlet twitter page for 25-30% off coupon codes...
Here is an hp that scores about the same as the xeon - email the seller and check the serial number it should have the remainder of a 3 year next business day warranty.
HP Elitedesk 800 G1 Core i5 4570 3 2 GHz 8 GB 500 GB | eBay

The lenovo's are great as well...i have a ts130 in the office...

What matters is the CPU, which varies across systems. If fenderman chimes in I'm sure he can show you some good refurbished system deals taht are cheaper than a lenovo server and come with the operating system.

Hey thanks!

I don't want to spend more than 350 though. I already have the O/S (windows 8 via education discount) and HDD. The price point of the TS440 was good at 300. there is one a TS140 for 297 on amazon as well (looks like a returned item)

If you get the TS140 make sure you are getting the Xeon version and not the i3, for best performance.

yep for sure.

It really is the best deal for the price I think.

how does the xeon perform vs the i5 etc? I don't have any experience with them

TS440 with E3-1245v3 is available on Amazon for $375. Awesome deal in my book!

True. I just received mine and it's HUGE!
Sometimes bigger is better...lots of room for hard drives and storage...also makes it harder to walk away with...on the flipside its more difficult to hide...Good buy nonetheless...

I've installed several of these for customers and I can tell you that they're built like a rock and perform flawlessly. They are 100% Intel so drivers are never a problem. In contrast, Lenovo consumers desktops are garbage.

What OS do you run on these boxes for BlueIris? I'm debating whether to run Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 or ESXi. With Hyper-V and ESXi, I will have to create a VM but with WS2012, it sounds like BI will run on it.

If I plan to run around 4-5 cameras in addition to using the TS440 as document storage and Plex media server, do you think it can handle it? Are you also using the WD Purple hard drives designed for surveillance?

What processor will you be getting the TS440 with?
As far as os you really dont need anything other than standard windows 7/8...is there a specific reason you want to run is in a VM?

They're all running Win 7 Pro. Server 2012 R2 would run just fine but don't know about ESXi.

And btw, they come with 4gb ECC Ram.

The NIC is not very powerful...it uses a low voltage processor..the purple drives are designed for NVR use and are the best choice for this application.

The difference between the 1225 and 1245 CPUs is pretty significant. Slightly higher clock speed and hyperthreading on the 1245.

The Xeon E3-1225 v3 scores 6913: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E3-1225+v3+@+3.20GHz
The Xeon E3-1245 v3 scores 9521: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E3-1245+v3+@+3.40GHz

Those NUCs are a generation old, just FYI. I wouldn't use any NUC for a Blue Iris machine though, latest generation or not.
