Yes, I have emailed support about this, but wanted to post in here in case anyone has any ideas on what I can do before support gets back to me.

I have an older Windows 10 Pro PC (retail license) with Blue Iris installed and wanted to move my Windows 10 Pro license to a new Windows 10 Pro computer (I used the media creation tool downloaded from Microsoft to do a clean install), and also my Blue Iris license to that same new computer. On the new computer, I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, fully updated but not activated yet. I then installed Blue Iris in demo mode and imported all of my cameras from my old computer to make sure it would all work. I then deactivated my Blue Iris license on the old computer and activated it on the new computer and let it run over night to make sure all worked the way I wanted. It did, no problem. I then removed the Windows 10 Pro license from my old computer and activated it on my new computer. No problem, HOWEVER by doing that, Blue Iris deactivated itself and put itself back into DEMO mode. I tried using my original Blue Iris license key to activate BI, but now it says 1 license it already in use and it won't accept it. I have absolutely no way to go back and deactivate Blue Iris to free up the license!

Did I follow the exact steps in doing this properly? Probably not, but I wanted to make sure Blue Iris was going to work on the new PC before I activated Windows on it. I think it's really stupid that Blue Iris deactivated itself just because I activated Windows.

Is there anything I can do myself to fix this, or do I have to wait until support gets back with me?

Thank you for any suggestions.

You probably installed a newer version of BI and it is past the one year purchase date and you didn't renew support.

You can run any version up to the date of the support expiration, so open up and see the expiration date and then rollback to the date just before that.

Thank you for the response. The key I used worked just fine to activate Blue Iris (it's the original product key, not a maintenance key...which is up date through 2024 anyway). The problem started when I activated Windows. That somehow made Blue Iris go back into Demo Mode. I now get this message when I try and add the correct key:

Capture.PNG

I have absolutely no way to deactivate the activated license.

Your mistake was activating blue iris before swapping the 10 pro license without deactivating it first. Blue iris registration server detected this change and now sees that you activated the license twice in a short period of time.

If that was documented somewhere, then I accept responsibility for not doing my research first. I had no idea that activating Windows 10 Pro would "cause" Blue Iris to believe it was a totally different PC.

Problem is, my license is associated with a computer that I can't ever get back to (my non activated version of Windows 10). I would try and un-activate my current version of Windows 10 Pro and see if Blue Iris "magically" sees that it is the same as it was before, but I'm guessing that would not work.

I think I am basically stuck until BI Support can delete the association on their server and allow me to reenter the key on my fully activated version of Windows 10 Pro.

Ugh. Things were going too smoothly I guess.

Here is what I would try

Export these two keys from your registry on both computers:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Perspective Software\Blue Iris
Contains almost all of the configuration including registration/activation data.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Perspective Software\Blue Iris
Contains a relatively tiny set of values to remember GUI-related things such as:
The console window size and position.
Layout and configuration of any detached camera frames on the desktop.
Visibility of timeline, ptz controls, etc.
State of the clip list selections.

Then import the two keys from your old computer to your new computer. If it doesn't help, you can easily delete those two keys on your new computer and import the backup keys you made before the change

Thank you for the suggestion. I gave it a try and it did not fix the problem unfortunately. Not sure how the internal mechanism for BI works to determine registration, but it must be fairly sophisticated.

So here's the deal. The new computer I am running this on is really a virtual machine running ProxMox. There is no reason this should not work as I have tested passing all the necessary NICs and hard drives to the guest system and it works just as if it was on a bare metal PC.

With that confession, I believe my problem started last night and not today when I activated Windows 10 Pro. I went back and checked some of my video footage from last night, and it was in evaluation mode then, before I activated Windows. I was experimenting with passing the guest (what ProxMox calls the VM) various amounts of Ram (shouldn't make a difference) and different numbers of CPU cores (probably made a bigger difference). One of those hardware changes while BI was activated probably caused it to see the system as being different enough to cause it to think it was a different PC all together. Lesson learned.

I tried going back to the original hardware configuration I believe I had when I actually activated BI and it still does not come out of demo mode or allow me to use my original license key, so I believe support is still need to get me out of this. I really don't want to have to buy another license when I can't use the one I already have.

Just for info, you can get a 2nd license for half price - just message support. I have done it a couple of times now when changing hardware. It's nice to have a system up and running and one you can play around with

I am surprised the reg export didn't work. I was in a similar situation before and when I imported the old reg keys, Blue Iris was activated. Oh well

Support got back with me and reset my license and it worked perfectly! Huge lesson learned.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

Thank you, I hope it will work for me and if it won't, I will message here. After reading your post, I found a website with a list of the Best eCheck Casinos in Canada, which has been very helpful to me as I play online casino games. If you are also looking for these websites, I reference you to checking out this one, which has a tonne of online casinos that accept the eCheck payment method. This will make it much easier for you to play and win real money.
Thank you, I hope it will work for me and if it won't, I will message here.
