It's been a little while since I last posted. Short story is that I've been wanting to set up my camera system for a while but was taking my time to figure everything out since I thought it would be a fun project for someone who's decently tech savvy. Well needless to say lots of other projects got in the way so as time went on I had bought alot of the equipment but I had to to shelf the project until now. We live out in what I would call a rural subdivision in eastern Canada, it's not fully in the country but everyone is on maybe 3-5 acres of land so it feels rural. Most folks are wonderful salt of the earth people but we live on a cul-de-sac and there's one set of redneck neighbors that happen to live right at the entrance who are making life for everyone in there an absolute PITA. They have rogue dogs running all over the place (one is a GSD) and they will run right out in the road after you if you are walking or worse if you're walking your dog. They also have step kids living in campers in the driveway, idiots doing donuts and burnouts with ATVs and POS cars around circle. Open septic field running right into the culvert......it's some pretty reckless stuff going on over there. It's getting to a point where we can't even put our dog outside to go to the bathroom without stray dogs showing up. Being nice and talking to them isn't working, they just give you the finger as soon as you appear to be out of sight. Gave them a free wireless dog fence in case money was an issue, nope they just DGAF about anyone else. So the obvious problem is that we may need to move this to the next level (we can't live pinned down in our own house) but again folks like this are totally unpredictable and can come unhinged at any point. So I really need to be able to document what's going on in the street and on our property so there's a record and not just hearsay. Hopefully this makes sense as to why I'd really like to have someone that knows exactly what they are doing to work with me to get my Blue Iris system up and running ASAP.
Here's what I have so far:
(8) IPC-T5442T-ZE - (had 4 cameras, just bought 4 more today) I have CAT6 run to 6 locations on the house and busy mounting cameras, running Cat6 into my granny suite soon too
(1) IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E - for license plate reading
(2) Reolink 5MP PoE doorbell cameras
(1) Lenovo M720s Thinkcentre i7-8700, 16GB Ram, 3TB HD, Win 11 Pro (this will be the NVR for the BI system)
(2) EdgeSwitch PoE Switch ES-8-150W (one for each side of the house to shorten the CAT6 runs)
(1) EdgeSwitch 16-150W PoE Switch ES-16-150W (this is my main switch for my home network)
I was planning to get a dual NIC card and run both the ES-8's into the back of the Lenovo and basically use that to isolate the cameras that way. I have nothing but the cameras and doorbells routed through those switches so they are dedicated just for security only. I was thinking with the right person we could work together using Teamviewer to remotely setup the system but again certainly open to suggestions.
Any help is most appreciated.
