Hi guys, so I got this camera a couple of years ago, recently forgot my password, so reset it using SADP, and, cause I set it up a while ago, I forgot about the "DON'T UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE" rule... I, uh, tried to update the firmware. Shit. My bad.

So I can TFTP into it, I can update firmware at will, but it never does "update success" only transfer success. Even after waiting a long time, restart after the approx 5 mins, trying to region change tool, every firmware version I've been able to find from 5.1.2 to 5.4.5. Oh, if I do change the region code from 1 to 2, it does show "update success" but around 20 seconds after transfer success, so it fails. Doesn't actually work.

I did find a copy of 5.3.0. 150327, got it from some russian site? Yeah that didn't work.

I attempted to contact the seller from aliexpress to get a copy, but his shop has closed. I emailed some address, but I dont have much hope there.

So, um, how do I fix this? :)

Thanks.

Thank you for the reply alastairstevenson.

Ironically, I found that site before, but couldn't get the download link to work (in chrome). Works in Firefox.

I got the file, but I don't think it uploads properly, it states system update complete 20 seconds after file transfer.

[2017-05-07 18:15:14] TFTP server[192.0.0.128] initialized

[2017-05-07 18:15:46] Device[192.0.0.64] test tftpserver

[2017-05-07 18:15:55] Connect client[192.0.0.64] success

[2017-05-07 18:15:55] Start file[C:\***\digicap.dav] transmitting

[2017-05-07 18:16:17] Completed file[C:\***\digicap.dav] transmit

[2017-05-07 18:16:38] Device[192.0.0.64] system update completed!
Then nothing happens :(

Code:
[2017-05-07 18:16:38] Device[192.0.0.64] system update completed!
Usually at that point it's waiting for you to terminate the tftp updater and power cycle the camera.
If you do that - does SADP show any useful status?

Thanks again, that worked.

Is it possible at all via any method to upgrade to latest firmware, or is it stuck at 5.2.5?

EDIT: spoke too soon, the downgrade didn't ever say 'system update completed!' so i waited a while, restarted, and while it kinda works. SADP detects it, and while the browser picks up the favicon, it's not actually accessible...

EDIT2: i used the later of the two downgraders, with "4 Lines Intrusion detection", since that made sense? that one didn't work. When I used the original downgrader, works great. not running 5.2.5 multilanguage. Thanks again

That does seem to vary with when the camera was manufactured.
But as for why some do and some don't work OK on the latest 5.4.5 firmware - I don't know.
So far - on 5 R0 cameras I've tried - I've not seen any problems updating to the 5.4.5 firmware, but we do know that it happens.

Yes, that version has had some mixed results, whereas the regular 1-line version has been OK.

The first R0 cameras that I updated to 5.4.5 had the 'mtd hack' done a while back, and Hikvision recommend not skipping the versions on the way.
Doing the 'mtd hack' when the 5.3.0 firmware or later has been loaded will trigger an mtd hack trap that's intended by Hikvision to break the camera.
The web GUI is always the safest as it has the most validity checks.

So, just to spell it out, the suggested order is:
  1. CN 5.3.0
  2. 5.3.0 downgrade to 5.2.5 EN
  3. MTD hack
  4. EN 5.3.0
  5. EN 5.4.0
  6. EN 5.4.5
Thanks so much for all your help.
