After coming from a Hikvision 7604 which used around 30w, ive decided to change to BI and use my i7 4790k and a POE switch. I have 4 Hikvision 4mp cameras and the whole lot is drawing around 110w.

What options are there for low power off the shelf units?

Out of curiosity, what’s the avg CPU usage when BI is running?

I have my BI system and a PoE switch that runs 5 of my 8 cameras (plus a WiFi access point) plugged into a UPS, and it shows 74 watts being used. It’s dusk here, so cameras IR lights are prob just barely on. Watts will go up a little bit as it gets darker.

My BI system is an old Alienware i7 (one gen older than your i5). CPU usage floats between 10-15%. Was curious if your CPU usage is a lot higher, causing increased power usage.

There are a few threads here with the power efficient CPUs run into problems where the processor can’t handle the load and BI acts weird.

You are either measuring wrong or have a video card...no way it's drawing that much...

I only have intel onboard graphics. Ive test it again. 1tb ssd, Netgear POE switch and i7 4790k unit. I plugged the monitor in the same socket last time by accident, without that in its measuring 92w. That still seems very high.

it is very high...what is your cpu usage? what power supply are you using, many are inefficient. How many hard drives do you have?

i have 1 HD, a samsung SSD 1tb. The power supply is a new 80+ gold, 16gb RAM, win10 pro. CPU usage is 17% (92w in power) on motion and 44% with all recording and 133w in power. Monitor unplugged for both readings.

how are you measuring?
what is the power supply watt rating- too high and it becomes less efficient..

Using a kilowatt plug in meter, which the 4 way adaptor goes in to. From this I have the PC, switch and monitor in. Unplugging the monitor for readings

not sure how much the k processors pull over the standard so that may be a factor...
