Be warned though, these Hikvisions will be Chinese only unless you find one with '多语言' which means multi language. Some of the sellers will agree with install other languages for an extra fee.

One thing I notice on the Hiks is that they seem to be limited to an incredibly small bit rate cap.

The Dahua 30fps has a limit of 96Mbps bitrate and the comparable Hiks have only a 16Mbps bitrate. I wonder if that could be a mistake. Seems so low. I keep my 3MP Hiks at close to 11 Mbps in 1080p. You'd think with 4 times the resolution, the bitrate ceiling should be raised on the Hiks. Doesn't that seem a little low? Strange.

Right, it may be a little bit low but I bet it still looks fine at 16 Mbps especially if you don't max out the frame rate. 16 Mbps would make more sense if it was h.265. I have two ACTI E77 at 10 megapixels / 7 FPS and the darned things max out at 6 Mbps bit rate. Talk about stupidly low bit rates. I run them at 3 FPS to compensate and they still output a kind of cruddy image, though I think the sensor is more responsible for that than the bit rate.

That's the problem. I'm hoping to get 30 fps at 3840x2160 in live view. I may just have to get the Dahua. I wonder if Hikvision can increase the Mbps of their cameras through firmware or something.

the throughput is typically a hardware limit, they let you turn it up as high as it can handle.. and many times even further.. if I crank my 4MP Dahua up to 32Mbps in MJPEG it just crashes anytime there is motion on screen.. if I bump it back a little bit all is well.. same way with my Dahua PTZ, if its at max bitrate the ptz latency skyrockets and it goes from nice and responsive to slow and spazmatic.. many times ive found the only way to get absolute max quality out of it is to disable all the substreams and image processing features.

I've always wondered this same exact thing. Like if we set the throughput to the max if it would cause a cpu bottleneck on the cam cpu itself, or if the cam manufacturers would know to not allow a throughput that would cause cpu overload. Apparently some allow it it seems.

I have 2 of my Hiks set to the maximum throughput and the CPU on the cameras is at 60% using Top at the telnet prompt. That's with VBR turned on though. Haven't tested with a constant bit rate.
