We have had a few instances of strange cars in my development in the past couple months, the most recent on last Wednesday with someone creeping around and ringing a neighbors door bell at 2 am then turning around in front of my house and parking on the corner across the street. I spooked them off when I came home from work just 5 min later. I got good footage of the car but they had a cover over the plate to block reading it. I couldn't believe I didn't get a read on the plate at first so I replayed the footage of me backing in the driveway and could read my plate perfect from across the street, the plate blocker was my only conclusion. I know the LPR won't solve that problem but I'm ready to install two cams to start off then add a third when I get some more cash and time to install the third one.

My main question is I have no good place to mount two of them beside the 2nd story soffit, Is this a deal breaker for the cams or am I just going to need to install a aux IR light with them? The cams I'm going to use are 2 of the 5241E-Z12E and the
5442E-Z4E. The Z4E I had laying around and had it set up once prior to test in the 1st story location and gave me good results. I will add a few pics for reference, I also have an alternative location on the porch that might work.

Distance to target?

Height isnt as much of a problem with LPR. I have one 14ft up. Its about the angle, at 100ft it quite good

We have no streetlights and my neighbors do not leave on their outside lights and I get the plates with just on board infrared.

But some haven't been able to without additional IR at 150 feet, while others have got 200 with just camera IR.

I'd say try it first and then add if you need

All about angle to the plates, distance, and light ( ir or normal ) on the plates

Remember to test positions before drilling and mounting

Expect to take some time tuning before you get solid reads.
