Thanks, makes sense if I have to go with 2 cameras for sure. I don't need the lower FOV at that point.
Just need to figure out how, it gets to + 100f in the summer and - 20's in the winter here. So not sure the splitter device noted above will survive in that soffit under those temps. Maybe there is an external box somewhere?
I have put mine in a junction box and my neighbor just stuck his in the soffit. Both are running strong. We get a string of 90 degree plus days and many days below zero - these things produce enough heat the lower temp shouldn't be an issue. The biggest issue would be not to let it get wet.
Most of these devices, including cameras, run "hot". Look at people on here that tested cameras in their climate control house and was getting 100+ readings.
Okay, my IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E was delivered today (thank you Andy @EMPIRETECANDY).
Have never used a Dahua before, for for LPR duty specifically, any settings I can configure now before I put the camera into it's "resting" place? Pouring rain today/tomorrow so likely won't get to mounting the camera for a day or three...
I’ve been running a IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 as an LPR from 137 feet for over a week now and I’m getting excellent results for both day and night. The 137 feet distance was calculated using the IPVM calculator (IPVM Camera Calculator) and I measured it with a Bosch laser measurer. Here’s the birds eye...
Thx, will have a look. My vantage point is pretty much dead on to cars coming into the subdivision and stopping at a stop sign, so hopefully that proves to be an "easier" setup. Having said that, headlights are always dead on, not sure if that will cause issues.
Camera is certainly larger than I thought it would be!
Was going to pick up a basic Sandisc 128gb microsdxc class 10 card, presumably most class 10 cards are compatible?
No I run color on that one during the day. I just use Schedule to switch about 30-45 minutes prior to sunset and 30-45 min after sunrise to minimize problems with focus.

Thanks, does Auto not work well in terms of shifting between Day and Night mode? With my Hiks it seems to work fairly well. Though again the area is fairly lit as it sits under a street light, wondering if I will be able to just leave it in Day/color mode. I assume I will only be able to get that side of the road with the camera.
That camera (the Z12) has issues with keeping focus during the Day/Night switch, particularly over 80% zoom. It helps if you can have the switch occur while there's still enough light for it to find something to focus on.
Here are my settings for the 5224-Z4E. I run color at day and B/W at night. Cameras switch over between the two settings 45 minutes prior to Sunset and 45 minutes after Sunrise. I also run HLC Backlight compensation at night only.
