Best laugh I've had so far today....watching this :
I believe it is time to form Fire Militias in areas .. volunteer fire fighting crews ..
So question, since I know nothing about that area, I get it that the fire would start at the Hills but wouldn't it just make it down to the ocean? Kinda like what happened in Maui.I’m actually surprised it took so long. When I was a kid, no one would consider building on the hills around LA because everyone knew they burned every few years. The hills became valuable view lots, but they were also the only land left in a lot of areas.
I never understood how they got insurance companies to write policies for those places. And lately the state insurance department has made it so unprofitable that big insurers started leaving the state. But really, they never should have written policies on houses on dry, windy hills.
Thanks, makes sense, Fire Up, Water DownGenerally, the fires go uphill. Once they get to the top, they usually don’t keep going. I know this time there was an area on the flats that got burnt, but almost all of these fires were on hilly areas.
The areas you’re hearing about, Malibu and Pacific Pallisades, are both built on cliffs that go from the sea up a small mountain range. The fires start at the road at the bottom of the cliff and just keep burning towards the top. Unfortunately, that’s where the view lots are.
And re your comment about floods, the perplexing thing is we have strict zoning and insurance regulations against building in flood plains. In LA, we have a flood once in 30 or 40 years. But you want to build on a hill that probably burned 4 or 5 years ago? Here’s your permit! Thanks, makes sense, Fire Up, Water Down
Somebody forgot to tell a lot of state government employees in positions, some elected, that make decisions about staffing, forestry management, water management, and fire protection, just to name a few. Then you know what happens after the fires? The winter/spring rains will come. Then we get to see in the news all the mudslides. It's a cycle out there. The rain will bring forth lush green grass that turns into the famous golden hills of Southern Cal when the rain stops, then fires, then rain/mudslides. Wash, rinse, repeat.
Yes and no. In the mayoral election a couple of years ago, Rick Caruso was ahead the whole way, until right at the end they “found” some boxes of ballots and what do you know? Karen Bass, the establishment candidate, won. So did we vote for it?To what degree are Kalifornians getting what they voted for? Too soon? Too harsh? Valid question?
I hear some liberals who were upset there weren't cops on every street intersection directing traffic to minimize the traffic jams for those fleeing the fires. Defund the police had nothing to do with that, right? At least the libs feel good about all the DEI as they watch their homes burn.
Pretty much like the 2020 Elections...looks like the Elites are Installing incompetent people all over the place. Well their Puppets...Yes and no.
