In Masters of the air episode 7, the 100th bomb group is sent to lead the 13th combat wing in attacking the VKF ball bearing works near Berlin. The video will address the accuracy of the clip. In particular did the episode narration match reality. My of the the channels views expressed concern too many bombs are released. This along with other items will be addressed. In short, the episode would need a few changes to match the post mission tactical mission documentation.

I took my Dad on his 82nd Birthday 2018 to Conroe, Texas where they Hangered a B-17. we ran into one of the owners. He led us on a tour in the plane. It was awesome. He told us of it's history, last flights the plane was used for recon. It is a great Memory of being with my Dad. Oh, 2 years earlier on my Dad's 80th he did the iFly Skydiving Sim. RIP Dad 2020








Unfortunately, the Plane crashed a few years later in 2022 at an Airshow in Dallas...Warning; this video of the crash is graphic...

FYI conclusion .. not enough bombs shown .. intervals too short .. Bombardier should drop following the path finder drop instead of using the nordfeld bombing sight

Finished the series last night. Wow....final part where they went over the real people had me in tears. What a great show....and I don't remember ONE DAMN WOKE MOMENT in the entire series!

I still believe, and always will, that theirs truly was the greatest generation.

There were 243,000 mariners that served in the war. And 9,521 perished while serving—a higher proportion of those killed than any other branch of the US military. Roughly four percent of those who served were killed, a higher casualty rate than that of any of the American military services during World War II. There were 733 Merchant Marine ships sunk due to enemy attacks, and the Japanese captured 609 mariners as prisoners of war. The Germans and Japanese sank six ships manned by the Merchant Marine in 1941 before Pearl Harbor, making mariners some of the first American casualties of the growing global conflict.

I had an uncle who was a B-24 pilot, shot down during a Munich bombing raid. 6 of the crew were able to bail out and became POWs. He was on his 47th mission, eligible to go home after 50 missions. From my research:

On a “typical” mission, about 10 percent of the planes didn't make it back. Some missions had a 50 percent loss rate, and on a few smaller missions none of the bombers made it back.

Considering how fast they had to turn out new pilots, some of whom were in their late teens, this is understandable. Hard for many of us to imagine the responsibility of flying such a large aircraft with a large crew in those conditions. And submariners is another group which deserves our utmost respect. Many suffered terrible deaths drowning, or being crushed to death, on a sinking sub.

My father's uncle was in the Merchant Marine during WWII and did many, many Atlantic crossings. He mentioned exactly ONCE to my father about how they had to keep sailing past sailors in the water after their ship had been sunk, often by a U-Boat. No stopping otherwise your ship was next. Told my dad the screams and cries of them begging to stop and pick them up haunted him his whole life.
