Mini-Review - 5442-ZE-S3 AKA T54IR-ZE-S3 - Replacement to 5442-ZE

You can just factory reset by pushing the button or doing it in the camera GUI.

Most here would opt for the button if possible.

Kicks and grins - meaning most here only update IF the release notes say it fixes a problem they have - so if your camera is working properly, don't update it just to be on newer firmware. We have threads every week where an update removes a feature someone was using.
Yeah, getting to the reset button can be a pain sometimes and even when you get to it you will have to realign your camera again. I know some have theirs installed very high up, second floor...

Yea, but hasn't it been a while since the original 5442 was released ... and then the S3 version?

There's gotta be something in the pipeline! ;-)

The S3 was such a big improvement they could have called it a different model but decided to stay with their workhorse model number....

Have you seen the stuff they have introduced over the last several years? TiOC red/blue lights on everything and less than ideal MP/sensor cameras. They haven't given any indication of new true innovation around the corners and in fact have been looking to "dumb down" the offerings to attract the home owner market with cheaper made stuff.

Some may argue that the 4M/T is a "new model" and in some aspects it is, but it is basically the 5442 with....wait for it.....red/blue lights LOL. But it does add dual illumination and a speaker and to many like me, that is an added improvement, but we don't use the blue/red lights LOL. That is probably the closest we will see at least for the next year as it relates to an improvement over the 5442 series.

Many here have said until they see real improvements with cameras on ideal MP/sensor ratios, they are not buying new cameras.

Here is what Andy said is new for 2025

10X PTZ with 180 fixed lens camera ---Released
MINI POE Pinhole IP Camera. ---Released
XVR for analog and IP tech ---Released
HDCVI Camera (Analog) ---Released
4mp cheap 1/1.8cmos Full Color IP Camera. ---Released
Thermal camera with temperature measurement. ---Released
A 6MP New Fisheye Camera, Release at March.
New 1/1.2cmos Super PTZ at Q2.

The 4M-T is indeed a new model. It has an HDR element on the SOC which does pick up light better, along with features @wittaj described (TIOC) that the 5442 does not have.
Only problem is sensor noise. It’s not horrible, but it’s not as good in regards to image quality as the 5442 S3’s

I suspect we’ll see them integrate that HDR technology (similar to dash cams) in the next gen 5442 along with mebbe upgraded AI

They don’t seem to be as concerned as I am about image quality. More about AI, search, and bells n whistles. That’s what sells to the masses.

There’s a reason I won’t buy 90+% of the 4MP cameras Dahua makes. They use an inferior 1/2.8” sensor and it’s not up to the task as far as IQ for 4MP cameras IMHO

I hope for new S4 generation for WizMind-S 5xx2 cams...
with all TIOC-PRO features (dual hybrid light, WizColor HDR video image processing, speaker/siren, ok I don't need red/blue light - please put 4 hybrid IR/white LEDs - half for near, half for far from bullet to turret)..
all optics/chassis options from actual wizmind-s line (but I hope for extra z12 optics for 4/8 Mpx, no need to keep 2Mpx model)...

plus all AI features from higher line (WizMind-X 7xx2)..
Ability to use full AcuPick 2.0 + full IVS + full Video Meta Data with face/plate detection on camera AT ONCE...
no need to choose Smart Plan - all AI functions should works at once...

only 4/8 Mpx models on 1/1.8".. no need for 2 and 5 Mpx..

maybe better sensor (but it looks that Chinese manufacturers don't invest into new sensors for cctv cams, only for mobiles)..
returning to Sony sensors for that popular and important line I think is not possible (actual situation USA vs China)..

And new WizMind-X (7xx2-X) camera generation should be upgraded to true 1/1.2" 8Mpx sensor from Sony (Starvis-2)...
With all features from new 5xx2-S4...

with all actual varifocal lenses options(yes, those will be huge cameras - varifocals for 1/1.2")

Starvis 2 - none from Dahua/HIK...
5849 is using old 1/1.2" Sony starvis 1 sensor - but this sensor wasn't created for cctv (it didn't see IR, so there are only white led models with that old sensor on market)...

Other companies like Axis stopped puts sensor manufacturer information to spec sheet.
So we don't know is there any cams with Starvis 2

I don't know where is problem with Sony Starvis 2 in cctv market.
in dashcam market almost each bigger Chinese manufacturer have a few premium models with latest Sony Starvis 2 sensors..
And Sony Starvis 2 logo + resolution is first marketing info on package...

I think that remains just a dream.

The clear next step is 5482 with 1/1.2" sensor. Come on , Dahua.
With updated sensor technology (improved low-light capability - not too many mega-pixels) combined with a large aperture lens in a vari-focal.

Tastes Great AND Less Filling - the "Light-Sucker" would sell like hot cakes! ;-)
