Missed it

Alright, I’ve only had BI running for maybe 3 weeks, so I’m extremely new. I get alerts on the traffic running down the street all the time. Today, someone wiped out the neighbors mail box, and I’ve got nothing. I have the mailbox there, and then the camera wakes up to some guy walking around the damage area. Is there recorded footage on the HD? Is the motion trigger only for alerts? Did BI really miss it? What needs set up differently? And I can’t post the video because it doesn’t have an allowed extension. Not sure what that means.

BI didnt miss anything...you incorrectly set your motion recording settings... Post your settings

You are right @drunkpenguin. I'm gonna have to eventually move to continuous, hopefully I will before I regret it.

If you set the detection properly it will work just fine...

I'm sure it will, I just need to get my ass in gear and do it before I regret not having done it sooner if I miss something.

I don’t understand how to post a video. I know I’ve tried MP4.
In the meantime, here’s some pics of my motion settings. If I can figure out how to post pics. They’re analog cameras, and I don’t know how good to be honest. They came with the house.

No need for the video..your biggest mistake is setting the make time to 3 seconds...its should be less than 1 second..with your setting the motion would have to occur for 3 seconds before recording would start...also set your break time to 30-60 seconds...how are you feeding the analog cameras to blue iris?

I thought Make Time meant the number of seconds prior to the trigger to go back and start recording, as if the trigger had happened 3-4 seconds prior. I adjusted to 1 second, and I changed break time to 30 seconds. I use Axis 240Q video servers, and as far as I know they do not do any image manipulation or motion tracking, but i'll put it on my list to take a look at them.

see above...that is why its important to read the help file before making any settings change. The axis will not do anything other than stream video...

I see "Pre-Trigger Video Buffer" under recording. What about Advanced Object Detection; "Object travels Pixels", and "Object Exceeds Percentage"? I don't have that checked, just curious when you would use it?

see help file..its all explained...

So it seems to be working better with the settings, I'm thinking the next time someone wipes out my neighbor's mailbox i'll catch it. Thanks for the help!
