I've heard bad things about the Osprey, but I don't know enough to have an opinion.

That said, helicopters are reliable enough, but maybe not as fuel efficient or something? They might be about a hundred MPH or so slower too. Similar payloads it seems.

Was there a need to fill the space between helicopter and jet?

The harrier always looks sketch to me. The moment before landing seems like a lot of ground effect causing chaos, so the plane just drops the last few feet to be done with it.

Use to love flying in 53's...pure luxury compared to 46's! 46's were 'shake, rattle and roll'. :) plus the 'occasional' hydraulic fluid on the ramp...

Still any of them beat humping!
Until you have been close to one taking off you can't believe how much air that it moves! We were testing the grounding points that they attach the static discharge lines to so got some up close exposure!
