My dedicated Blue Iris server

Well im kinda new to the hole camera thing, but upon testing Blue Iris and 7x Hikvision cameras.... i just fell in love with it, and Pentium G3220 was not able to move Blue Iris with 7x 1080p streams at 15fps. With Intel releasing devils canon, decided to to update my desktop freeing the 4770K, i did have some of the components already from a HTPC that no longer in use, but did buy some.

CPU = Intel Core i7-4770K
CPU Cooler = NoFan CR-95C Black Pearl Fanless CPU Cooler
Memory = G.Skill Sniper 8GB DDR3 1600
Memory heatsinks = 2x Enzotech Pure Forged Copper Memory Heatspreaders (had to buy them as the snipers were too tall to fit below the Nofan95)
Motherboard = MSI H81I
FANs = Noctua NF-A14 PWM + Noctua NF-S12A PWM + Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM
PWM fan splitter = Circotech PWM Fan Splitter
CASE = LIAN LI PC-Q08B
PSU = picoPSU-150-XT + 150W Adapter Power Kit
SSD = Intel X25m 120GB
HDD = WD 4TB Purple WD40PURX
Suspension = NoiseMagic NoVibes III Silent Hard Drive Mounting System
OS = Windows 7 home premium
Software = Blue Iris 3.8

Since there was no direct hdd cooling on the case for the way i wanted to mount the hdd, decided to do some light modding adding a bottom fan to the 5.25 cage,

The fans are controlled by MSI Bios, they idle at 12.5% around 200rpms and core temps are usually at 30C. Prime95 does punish it though, reaching above 80C on some cores, but still is stable at 3.7ghz on all cores.

Well its a range from 63-68W, i tried to take a pic in middle with only blue iris running but no recording, usually the CPU utilization ranges from 16-20% on only running BI. I took a picture from my ipad on the CPU utilization accoring to the IOS app, as right now the server is headless, i also added one with 1 camera recording, i ran out to trigger it, usually its from 23% to 27% is what i see goes up when one camera starts recording. All the cameras are almost as the initial BI comes in the initial install to record on motion, only have added 45 frames to buffer as i was missing some parts when it started recording, and one of the 7 has a 60.

Nice heatsink! I wonder how it performs under a heavier load? I bet it is very dependent on other airflow in the case... I regularly run my i7-3770k (with stock cooling) BI server at ~80% load and it floats up to around 92C. Occasionally spiking as high as 98C.

No, the picture that you seeing of HWmonitor is running prime95 exclusively there is no BI on the background, if you think the 70C is because of the actual temp reading, its because it moved toward a lower load test in prime95, usually the spikes i get in all pcs is the 800/800,000, the next test after that is what you are seeing, which doesn't put as much stress as the before.

Idle = 30C
BI = 50C
BI recording = spikes to 55 to 60C
Prime95 = 85C

Well idk if BI can put a higher load than Prime95 can, but my guess is wont ever reach 90C as it didn't on prime95.

Small update on the server, for a year or so i have been having very good experience with BI3, and wanted to move to BI4 but wanted Win10 to be more stable, and also 4tb wasnt enough for 2 months recordings with two cameras on continuous, so i also ordered a a 6TB, i also decided this would do other things for the home so i added a 2.5 hdd for serving multiple mobile devices. All plans never happen how we want, one of the worst things on windows 10 is the inability to update when i want, sometimes i go on working trips of a month, and really don't want to come back to an empty server that didn't had the BI running, i know it can be done like service or a task, but things that i really didn't want to do when windows 7 pro did all things i wanted fine, i have control on the updates and reboots. So here what i upgraded and a couple of photos of the finish buid with BI4,

I know this is a somewhat old thread, but I'm looking into building a dedicated server/blue iris box, and wanted to ask: Did you need to buy any additional accessories for that pico PSU to work? I'm planning on using an SSD and a Purple drive but saw it only has one SATA connector. Also, is the 4 pin 12V aux for the CPU? Thanks in advance!

Yes i used a Silverstone CP06 that allows to connect up to 4 sata power devices, so with it i connected the WD Purple 6tb, Hitachi 5k1500 and Intel X25m.

Also, is the 4 pin 12V aux for the CPU?

Yes the picoPSU 150XT has the 4pin CPU power connector.
