Need new wireless router

If you must have a wireless router with 8 ports and VPN you can get this: RT-AC88U | Networking | ASUS USA. It looks like it meets all of your criteria. I would recommend just getting a basic 4 port and adding a POE switch as previously stated.
@BobW55 , looks like @Probird79 has got good news for you with the Asus RT-AC88U (just ignore his 'snide' remark about the 4 port version and a switch).

1) Like I said, I WANT 8 ports. I do not want to have to use the switch I already have, it is destine for another project.
2) Like I said I WANT to set up VPN.

I do NOT need POE, everything is direct powered.

Sorry I even asked.
Was not aware asking for help would bring such a deluge of snide remarks and not answers.
you know they do sell more switches...they are not out of stock... why in the world would you WANT 8 ports and PAY 150-200 more for that privilege...the level of OCD we see here is insane....

You did get an answer specifically about finding a router with 8 ports in the 200-250 price range, they don't exist, at least not that I can find.

People are just sharing their experiences having gone through similar decision making processes before. You say you are not a networking guy but you are rejecting advice from those with networking expertise and experience.

That said if you are willing to bump your budget to 400 bucks go ahead and buy one of the couple of routers that have 8 ports. The suggestion here is that you could opt for a great wireless 4 port router + good POE switch and have more than you asked for for less. I've been down the road you are on and was very dissatisfied. These big boy routers have (in my experience) heat issues and when operating as a full time switch heavy traffic can create issues where as a dedicated switch (like you currently have) is a better choice for LAN side traffic.

Hope you are happy with whatever direction you go.

MiKrotik, enterprise performance at budget price. Not for the average consumers. Needs programming, but capable of many tasks.

Ended up going with this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016EWKQAQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Has what I wanted, and could not pass up a freebie. Ok I had to pay $7.00 for shipping.
300 dollars for that crap is beyond insane...you do realize that most if not all of your devices cannot utilize the extra "speed" of that router...
For that kind of money you can have a business class router that provides not only vpn but vlan and other advanced capabilities that are actually useful, and be left with money in your pocket.

As an Amazon Associate IPCamTalk earns from qualifying purchases.
That may be, but like I said, it was a freebie.
Other that I would agree with your assessment.
My wired equipment will be most happy.

Had a fellow ham radio operator I had helped out with some radio repairs some time ago, he had bought it and never used it. I am not complaining.
