I am going to be getting 8 outdoor cameras, and 1 in door garage camera. I was thinking about the IPC-T5442TM-AS. But recently saw the hdw2831tm-as-s2. Which would you guys recommend between the two? If you have any other recommendations please let me know.

I will also need a NVR, which NVR would pair well with those cameras? NVR4216-16p-4KS2?

Thank you in advance,

It would depend on what you are going to do with the camera.

The 2831 is an 8mp on a 1/2.7" sensor and has a max aperture of F2.0 which gives it a Min illumination of 0.009 Lux @f2.0.

The 5442 is an 4MP on a 1/1.9" sensor and has a max aperture of F1.6 which gives it a min illumination of 0.002 Lux@F1.6.

So if you are hoping for face ID at night in color, the 5442 will out perform the 2831. The 5442 has fewer pixels spread out over a bigger sensor and a larger lens opening, which equals to more light gathering per pixel.

There are other differences, but for me the above is the main difference.

You need to read the cliff notes. Most everything is covered in there, especially about not trying to chase MP.

Yes, for face ID at night in color. the 5442 has options for 2.8mm, 3.6, and 6mm, what is the difference? Thank you!

The different lenses have different field of view. The smaller the lens, the wider the field of view. So a 2.8mm will have a wider view than the 6mm. The 6mm will have a closer image than the 2.8mm, Like it was zoomed in more.

The two images below show this.
The first one is from a 5442 w/2.8mm lens. The second one is a 5231 varifocal set at about 7mm.
