Have you tried connecting to the camera directly using a computer on the same network? 192.168.1.108 is the default IP and you can use a web browser. There is a playback tab that allows you to access the recordings on the SD card. The camera can be configured to either continuously record or record on motion alert.
Realize that the NACL app in Chrome is how to get into those older cams. Once you add that app to Chrome, each time you want to get into the cam you will have to select that app. So clicking on 'Apps' brings up the apps page, click the NACL Web Plug-in and it will open a separate browser. That is where you type in your cam's IP address.
Well when there is no card in the slot, or it is in backwards or not pushed in and locked, it will not see it, like below. Hitting 'Format' will do nothing since the cam does not see a card.
