I finally managed to buy a 9020 Optiplex i7 4790 with 8GB RAM and integrated Intel graphics.

It comes with 2 hard drives, both 1GB. My dying Hikvison NVR has a 2GB drive which, with 5 3mp cameras has provided plenty of storage with all cameras set to motion detect.

I'm thinking the C drive 1GB for OS and Blur Iris, a bit of a waste as most will go unused, then use the second drive for video storage. At 1GB this will not be enough capacity. I can rob my 2GB out of the Hikvision NVR thus have no use for the second 1GB. The PC is a mini tower, I assume 2 drives is the max it can handle.

Should I use part of the C drive for video? Any issues when splitting video storage between 2 or more drives? Is it transparent to the user?

Thanks!

Get a 128-256gb SSD for C and use storage spaces to create a 2tb space from your 2 drives. 4tb drives are cheap now and can be used to easily expand the storage space

Does the SSD install in another location? I don't yet have the PC and I am thinking the mini tower only has slots for two hard drives. I can use the 2TB from the NVR and/or buy larger drives. A shame I have no use for 1 TB drives.

You can mount the ssd anywhere in the case using double sided velcro...it has no moving parts and does not need a mount.

I have been known to mount SSDs with tape :)
