New Law Attempts to Stop Catalytic Converter Theft

California just passed the law - we'll have to wait and see what it does.

Early Wednesday morning (Sept 28) a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was stolen about a mile away from here. It was driven up the far street to where it dead ends. It was stripped of various items (including 2 catalytic converters) in less than 5 minutes. The commotion was noticed by a resident who called the police. They arrived about 30 minutes after the truck was stripped. The next day the owner went door to door looking (he had placed a tracker in the truck) for anyone with video footage. I was able to give the owner license plates of the 3 vehicles that might be involved. If I ever hear back from the truck owner I may post a video.

Laws only work for law abiding citizens. The criminal element doesn't give 2 shits about somebody's law, written on a piece of paper or stored in binary form on some hard disk. It has absolutely no bearing on anything they want to do. If they want a catalytic converter, they will just go take it.

The owner did a good job with the tracker .. very good that he did and was able to coordinate with you to get this ..
