New RCA HSDB2A 3MP Doorbell IP Camera

Btw Bill, I'm changing topic here: my replacement DB1 is on its way, a brand new one, and I'll need to enable the chime setting, which the new ezviz app does not provide anymore. Which app still offers that config, Guarding Vision? I remember one of your posts about it. Thanks.

Yes, it is the Guarding Vision where I had to change the chime setting. I am also using it as my main doorbell notificaiton app too. I feel it a better notification app than the Eziviz app but both are still great app to use with DB1.

Curious, why you had to replace it?

2 weeks ago it suddenly stopped working, it didn't power up anymore. I tried resetting it, keeping it disconnected for 2 days, but nothing. Luckily it is still under warranty (purchased it 3 months ago) so I sent it to the support company here in Italy, in Milan. After 1 week the technicians told me it is not repairable and they ordered a replacement, they shipped it yesterday. I was really disappointed about the reliability of the product. Hope the new one lasts longer, otherwise I'll have to start looking for another product.

@TechBill Guarding Vision works with the same EZVIZ account or requires a separate registration on its platform?

Use the same account information. Ezviz app also uses the Hikvision cloud service.
Great. I just need it for the chime config. I think I'll continue with the EZVIZ app, it worked fine for me, notifications too. And sharing with my wife's phone via the integrated sharing feature worked, had to tweak one permission but I made it work.

Thanks a lot for the help.

That is correct I have the EZVIZ.

I've already got the cast to AndroidTV working with Ultra Def...though there is a lag in the video. I would really love to setup a way that when the doorbell button is pressed it automatically starts casting to my AndroidTV and/or my Google hub. Can anyone direct me to any sites or posts that might explain how that could be setup?

@David L
Did you have to do anything special, to get Ultra-Def, to work while casting?

EDIT:
Nevermind,
I just read in the posts made while I was typing, that it is most likely device dependant.
Thanks anyway

At the Risk of sounding like a broken record,
Tasker (that is, if, you are, using android, and if, memory serves, you are, if not, I don't know, if an IOS alternative exists)

Tasker Automate Your Life

as for the how,
you will need to post in the Tasker forums or the Tasker reddit page, for help, setting it up,
but,
basically,
You will need,
to figure, a way, to catch,
the button press event,
from,
the EzViz App,
either,
via the apps actions,
Ex.,
( when a notification gets triggered from the DB button Press),
that notification event can be used to trigger,
your task in Tasker
or,
you could try,
picking up the event,
from,
the android logcat, itself,
and then,
use that,
to trigger a task,
in Tasker,
That,
you would have,
setup,
to,
fire up Chromecast,
with,
the desired stream.

Their are other events, that, could be utilized, for, said purpose, these are, simply, the easiest, I could think of, OTS.
Also,
this can probably, be simplified with the use of one of the,
AutoApps,
witch are plugins, made for Tasker, by the developer of Tasker, Tasker Dev on reddit,
specifically,
AutoCast

I will be doing this myself, when it is, that, I finally, get around to setting up my EzViz DB!

So if you beat me to it,
I will love, following the instructions, that you will assuredly write-up, after you yourself figure this out! "LOL";)

And Yes I am a Fan,
of ,
Tasker,
and, its abilities,
the only issue I have,
with any of it,
is that,
I don't know,
well enough,
how to,
make use of it :(

Did you turn on audio? That was the fix for me to get Ultra Definition working.

So...mine has decided to stop working with my physical chime all of a sudden. Just...nothing. I honestly don't know how long it's been an issue but I'm getting no indoor chimes at all. I have the powerpak thing installed...but there doesn't seem to be an option in the app to toggle type of chime anymore.

Any ideas for this? Kind of defeats the purpose of a doorbell. :/

Try LaView ONE App or Guarding Vision, hopefully the chime option should still be there.

That would need me to change the firmware, right? Really stupid they removed the ability to use a mechanical chime by default.

you dont need to put on the new firmware to change apps. you will need to first "delete your doorbell" from the app you are using, so you can then register it again with the new app. I have an RCA.. but have been using the Laview APP

Maybe a good advice for all EZViz app users to install the guarding vision app along side, and do not update the last one, because you dont know when they will loose the chime switch. You don’t need to change firmware nor delete the doorbell from the EZviz app, because it will accept your EZviz account. So you can use both the Guarding Vision app and the EZviz app at the same time.

In my experience from a couple weeks ago, I can still use the latest Ezviz app to get back to chime configuration IF I delete the doorbell first and re-register it in Ezviz(latest version). I'm guessing once all the re-branded apps update to latest code base like Ezviz did recently, one may not be able to use the workaround via older Guarding Vision/RCA/Hik-Connect apps as code will be excluding the chime config option until you delete doorbell first and re-add. In the future, I hope that the chime config can be exposed in current tools like iVMS/Batch Config/Ezviz Studio for power users since they're starting to remove it from the apps.

On a side note, family is happy with the Sage Doorbell sensor I installed a couple weeks ago to our smart home automation as they now get notified via voice from our Alexa devices throughout house and push message notifications to kids phone since they don't have doorbell app.

I agree totally.
I got my Sage on order. We have SmartThings, so I am going to give it a try.

You'll have no problems with SmartThings with the Sage Doorbell Sensor DTH as mine worked perfectly paired to my SmartThings hub. I believe hubitat hub works as well but don't have it to test.

@David L

Where, did you order the Sage device from,
and,
how much,
$.US

Also,
I just stumbled across an Alexa Skill,

Notify Me

that,
might,
give,
comparable results,
to,
that,
of,
the Sage,
for,
the purposes,
of,
announcing,
DB presses,
over,
Alexa.

Note:
I said might,
because,
I'm not,
sure,
of,
its, ability, to be,
triggered,
from,
a notification.

Reading,
through the reviews,
I gleaned,
that,
it functions,
via,
the RESTful APIs,
&,
that,
it has,
triggers,
for,
missed calls,
missed text,
Etc.

In theory,
if,
notifications,
can be used,
as,
triggers,
then,
it should,
work,
simply,
by,
setting the notification,
sent,
from,
EzViz,
or,
Whichever,
app,
one happens to be using,
that,
notifies you,
of,
a doorbell press,
as,
the trigger.

If,
someone,
tries this,
whether it be a Pass or a Fail,
Please,
let us know

Then,
if,
for whatever reason,
the skill is not setup, to use notifications, as triggers,
a PM to the developer, making them aware of the possibility, might, prove fruitful.
