My wife and I recently installed a SimliSafe alarm system in our home and we are wanting to start adding some IP cameras for added security. We will probably start out with 3 or 4 cameras and then add as needed. I can see us possibly getting up to about 8 to 10 cameras, but can't really see us ever getting much above that. We'll probably be looking at running 2MP or 3MP cameras at 15FPS or 30FPS. Do you experts think the attached system would be up to running Blue Iris with such a system?

Thanks for any advice you might be able to offer.

If you run the cameras at 2mp and 15fps (30 is a waste and not needed) you can probably run 8 cameras on that system using hardware acceleration. The T processor is not that strong.

I wonder how much more powerful the same system with an i7-4770 would be? I'm not all that familiar with the last couple of generations of Intel processors.

I may look into that then. I see the same system with the i7-4770 running between $550 and $600. That would probably help future proof me for several years.

Thanks.

Dont get the 4770, that system is older. Look for a 4790, its not much more powerful but its a newer processor so the system wont be as old.

Dell outlet had refurb i7-4790 systems for $510-580 last week.
