Newbie looking for a change

Hello everyone,

We are looking for some advice on home security setup. Currently have a home that was initially wired w Honeywell system (2) keypads, 4 flush mount door sensors, 11 window sensors and 2 motion. For a quick fix we added Comcast/xfinity security as the security provider w/ alert to police, only due to a great package deal on the other services when we moved in. We also have 3 Kuna cameras on garage and deck and a few nest cams inside and a ring doorbell. We came across blue iris and some DIY home videos and would like to build our own home security network. Looking for POE cameras for the exterior, as house has cat5 run, and the ability to have similar window, motion and door sensors that are currently in use. Pretty handy and Have some good tech aptitude, but could use some guidance before jumping into the project. The core of our alarm system is getting a litttle long in the tooth (Belgian Malinois).

Alarm system are for security. Break ins, set off the loud alarm. A low false rate.
Camera systems are for surveillance. Who is walking around the outside of your house. The package is on the front porch. Who check the doors of your car at 2 AM. Which dog took a crap on the living room rug. A high false rate.
Do not get them confused.

I have an alarm system with door sensors, break glass, IR motion detector it is monitored.
I have currently 15 cameras, 8 outside 7 inside. still adding to system.

Just to add to the alarm system comments.. it's a nice combo to have an alarm system that instantly notifies you of a trip and then be able to remotely pull up cameras to see what set it off. By the nature of monitored systems it's sometimes 15 minutes before the police even get the call. Usually the monitoring company tries the phone tree you provide before notifying 911. Then depending on your 911 center and how busy they are it could be several minutes before they dispatch the alarm to a unit. Then of course the drive time once a squad is enroute. Not trying to knock 911 in any way, it's just the nature of the beast and unverified alarms are typically a lower priority response.

Now if you have a loud alarm it will hopefully scare off a turd before he can take anything. And being able to verify yourself via camera and give 911 info that it's an actual burglary in progress will make the response a priority.
