Newbie question

I am confused about how I go about doing this.

I have 6 cameras set up and functioning.

On 3 of the cameras , I would like to have continuous 24 hour recording as well as alerts when motion is detected on those cameras.

On the remaining 3 cameras I would only set up alerts on motion detection.

I am getting confused between schedules, profiles and how to set it all up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forget about schedules, you almost never need them...in your case you dont need profiles either because nothing is time dependent..
simply setup the cameras to do exactly what you stated.
