Noob here to setting up NVR

Thanks for the info!

You wont need to do any of that

Most any newish Dahua PoE NVR 2017> will automatically set the cameras with the same password as the NVR. They cant be reached from outside, even if someone were to get to your NVR web interface. The cameras on the PoE ports will not be accessible if they recognize an IP trying to access that is from outside of your LAN

Dont over think it.

Once you've setup the NVR, basics, time, network etc, log out of the machine interface and plug in the cameras to the PoE ports one at time. They will auto negotiate an IP in the 10.1.1.x range and be assigned the same password as the NVR

Once they all appear (I would suggest downloading SmartPSS Lite for viewing Live, playback, and downloading clips as its better than the NVR web interface for all but the AI search) you will be able to (within your own network) login to the Web GUI of the NVR by typing the IP address of the NVR into a browser. Once in the NVR you'll be able to access the cameras via the camera registration page using the blue IE icons.

When you first access a camera, you will be asked to turn on P2P (dont, even if you use P2P you will do that on the NVR not the individual cameras) and it will ask if you want auto updates. Again No. (more later on that). It will then return to the login screen login=admin (assuming you didnt change it) and password will be the same password you used to login to the NVR

Thank you! Hope to try get at least one done today. I do have a couple of questions to make sure I do it the right way.

1. Can I plug up the cameras up first and let them get in setup before I take them outside ? I would put them on the same channel on the NVR that I would initially.

2. I have a dual lens camera that I got from empiretech and was wondering will it take two channels up on my NVR or just one?

1 - yes but there’s little upside as whatever settings you make to the camera on the bench will need to be changed at the real location.
Dont mess with the networking tab or change password on the camera. Let the NVR do it. If it appears with a green indicator in the registration tab and you can see an image in live view, your bench test is done.
2- I don’t have one but I believe the 180 is a spliced image that only uses 1 channel on the NVR

@bigredfish @wittaj how is the best way to go to the cameras interface to make adjustments? Through the nvr and then hit the blue e or can you just type the ip address of the camera itself?

@samplenhold , Wittaj mentioned not to get the thing" all whacked out" is this a qualifying IPcamTalk technical term?

I know this sounds like a silly question but read something before off of here that you said you want to factory reset three times but how do you do a factory reset? I found the reset button and have held it down and unhooked it but it seems to do nothing.

@wittaj and @bigredfish I guess I have screwed something up. It was working when I first set it up but now after trying to factory reset it multiple times I’m getting the red X status on top and red dot status on the bottom for the camera and it’s grayed out. The port on top states 3777 and I haven't tried to add nothing but just go in the nvr to see if it rebooted. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Why did you factory reset it?

It has started working now. I went to the pencil and put in the password which was already in there and it started working. I have the camera inside by the nvr and now I’m going to hang it up. I did notice that when I move the camera it’s very laggy. Could that be because I’m in the cameras interface and not smart pss?

It probably started working in a few minutes. But you didnt refresh the page to see. Patience

I have no idea if you're in the camera or NVR interface?

Need to see your camera registration page on the NVR

No need to do any factory resets right now, None.

10-4. I finally got it hung up and when I go through the nvr and click the blue e to go into the camera, the picture shows up and then as you can see below it just spins. Why is that?
