Hi,

I have soon two DS-7616NI-K2/16P NVRs & need to plan for HDDs.

According to... Hikvision Europe ...the DS-7616NI-K2 can handle up to 6GB HDDs. But in the latest "HDD Compatible List for Hikvision DVR/NVR v20170112"... http://www.hikvision.com/ueditor/net/upload/2017-01-12/d5aa695c-71d8-4980-9adb-698271e2df06.pdf ....it also have 8GB HDDs in the list. So I suppose the 6GB specs at the website probably are due to the max capacity that was available at the time the NVR was introduced? So maybe even the new 10GB HDDs works?

Anyone with experience of NVR HDDs having a rekommendation of preferred HHD model/models?

Thank you in advance.

I've never been a fan of Seagate drives myself. I've never had a wd purple drive fail me yet in nvr's. Love em.

These two drive manufactures run hand in hand pricing wise through 4TB, after that the Purples on average are about 10% more unless you find a deal then they are only a few points more.

As Shock said, I'll trust WD over seagate 7 days a week based on past experience. I've never had a WD fail me, but while I've not used Seagate in NVR's I have had drives fail in PC's, due to bad sectors and failed control arms.

Also I wouldn't assume your hard drive size theory. Larger HD's have been available in the past, while not in the purple line until recently they were available so I'm guessing the NVR's won't recognize anything past 6tb at this time if that is what the spec says.

A lot depends typically on the file system used, and I don't recall file systems with a 6GB limit, so your guess that perhaps even a 10GB HDD would work is possible.
Then again, I'm reluctant to spend what they are asking for a 10GB HDD.

Haven't yet bought any HDDs since I haven't had the time to install the cabling & all of the cameras yet. So for the moment I use the edge storage with 64GB Samsung EVO Plus microSD.

I finally bought two HDDs.

Western Digital Purple, 8TB, 128MB Cache
WD80PUZX

Got them delivered yesterday, installed this morning & it works as it should. The NVR detects the HDD & formatted capacity is 7452GB.
