Hi, I planned to use a Rasp Pi 5 as a NAS for my new camera setup. What is better? An NVR or just a NAS?

Software NX or BI?

Greetings
Tom

It's too open-ended a question to give a useful and helpful response.

What does the camera setup consist of / specs / resolution /qty etc?
What do you aim to achieve / who will be using the system / for what / how frequently / level of experience / etc?

my thread about the cams is still under review, I quote here:
I'm looking for a way to monitor my automated stores. I run a room rental business, where there is often no staff present.
I would like to use AI to detect the following events:
  • Customer waits in a waiting area in front of the door (I would like to reveal that the staff is not on site and the customer cannot come in)
  • Two customers share one access card
My idea is to have the camera set an event when:
  • more than one person is in the entrance area at the same time (in this case the same access card is usually used)
  • a person stays in one area for a length of time such as 20 seconds (this is probably an interested person who is not being served by staff)
Maybe even better events/trigger are possible? Maybe face recognition is a thing, but can it manage about 10.000 people in 1 year? Mainly I just want to see the 2 events (i think about 50 events/day/store) and save time to evaluate it.
I plan for every location 2 cameras and 1 local nvr/nas. I need to check all events remotely from my macbook/pc. So its necessary to skip from event to event very fast to save time (reolink nvr doesnt - even with fiber connection its a pain to view)

Welcome @net5035

Alastair has some good advice.

In general, most members end up with a VMS ( Blue Iris software ) running on a used business class PC ( intel CPU gen 8+ is the starting point for specs ) that can hold one SSD and at least one 3.5" HDD, or a NVR.
From what I have seen in the forum very few posts on NAS setups.

General use case here is a house, some have stores / farms / churches / schools also.
