One of the challenges when configuring an NVR for your cameras is correctly configuring the NVR to get a reliable stable video feed.
A second challenge is transporting the alert triggers from the camera's AI detection system, or the PIR events at the camera, to the NVR so that one can choose to only record when the camera detects movement.
One (not the only) method of doing both is to purchase a camera that supports ONVIF. Obviously, your NVR ALSO needs to support ONVIF!
If one needs to hack a camera to get it to produce ONVIF (as in the case of the EZVIZ DB1 for example) one may need a way to determine if said hacking was actually successful. I have discovered an excellent tool that can do just that however, two caveats regarding this tool:
1) You have to reveal your camera passwords to use it.
2) It does not get a 100% clean bill-of-health on Virus Total (1 detection out of 62)
I enclose said tool's installer, a screen shot of said tool, and VirusTotal's opinion of said tool
Please exercise good judgment before deciding to use it. (I have it installed on a managed computer that has security protections up the ying-yang, and so far it has not been ejected, so we can assume it is not overtly malicious.) As to whether this tool is stealing passwords, well that is harder to sus out
Certainly for diagnosing ONVIF configs on my cameras and NVR I found this tool invaluable. Also it can tell you precisely what categories of information the camera is able to share with the NVR, including exact URLs and access methods.
Pretty excellent really. I was greatly relieved to find it and likely was able to get stuff working that I otherwise would not have.
