Order another cpu or get discreet gpu?

I'll get a USB and give it a try. I've wanted to do all the troubleshooting I can before risking it. Thanks

You'll then need to work out how to enable the Enhanced Memory Profile in the BIOS myknownself, and of course other tweaks as well to get it stable and optimised.

But at least the update should get it to post.
 
Turns out to be a problem with the motherboard.

Also ordered the i9-9900k so now I have an extra KS chip
 
There was a pin that was bent up and curled over itself making a loop.

No idea how that could happen short of magnification and grabbing it with tiny tweezers and rotating. It took a microscope to be able to see it correctly.

There were a couple of pins slightly out of place as well. I was careful putting it in and closing the latch but it's possible I moved some. But there's no way I can imagine I possibly curled that one back on itself.

I wish the microscope had a camera on it
 
You could always try afocal projection with the microscope.

And it happens, I've heard it happens a lot with Intel CPU's myknownself.
