Outdoor wireless PTZ

Hello all!


Can anyone suggest a outdoor ip wireless PTZ camera that has a fast pan speed and a good image for under $200 ?


I am not sure if they have anything good in that price range or Im just not looking in the right place.


Appreciate any help.
 
Ah, so a fixed dome. I thought you wanted PTZ, but maybe my definition is different than yours. The way you pan/tilt/zoom a ds-2cd2132f-iws is to hold it in your hand and move your wrist to pan & tilt, then use you feet to zoom in/out.
 
To do it remotely, you'll need to a 2nd person to hold the camera in their hand. Then yell out to him commands like left/right/up/down. Seriously, it's a process to pan/tilt any fixed dome. You have to remove the dome cover and move the lens to pan/tilt it and then re-install the cover. If its not mounted level, then you have to fidget with lens rotation to make it level. Figure 5-10 minutes each time you want to make that adjustment. Dahua and Hikvision do make an inexpensive wifi pan/tilt camera, but not outdoor rated.

What networkcameracritic is trying to say is tha you will not find a quality ptz for 200...the bigger question is why you even need ptz...while there are some useful applications, most of the time it is a waste of money.
 
Your right, I may not need a pan/tilt/zoom. I guess I would need 2 bullet cameras with Wifi?

They are going to me mounted on the front of my garage. One so I can see directly in front of it and the other so I can see in back of the house.
 
I don't know if it's a waste of money. I'm putting one in this weekend at our lake home to keep an eye on our boat. We had a fixed camera with a 25mm lens, but the issue is that while I can see our boat, I can't see the overall conditions like is it sunny or overcast or foggy, are the streets drivable (snow/ice), is the water choppy, is it windy, and finally, how busy the lake is. I used this information to determine if I should go up or not.

Trust me, I wish it had WiFi, it would make the install go so much easier. Instead, I'll spend a few hours or more feeding cable through walls, patching drywall, painting.

For security, it is a waste of money unless you have live guards that use it to view around and say a large parking lot and zoom in on something suspicious.

Before you go WiFi, consider that WiFi cameras need a power brick to power the cameras. Have you thought about where you'll plug these cameras in or are you going to put in outlets like in your eaves. The you have the ugliness of it all, the wire, the power brick, the outlets. Also, unless you have a WiFi device nearby, you may not have enough signal to get a constant 1080P feed from 2 cameras. Don't know why anyone would do this to the front of their home. Instead, just get PoE cameras, put a PoE switch in your garage, run Ethernet to the cameras and do a proper clean install. If you don't want to run Ethernet between the PoE switch and your router, you can get Powerline adapters that transmit over your house wiring.
 
There is no wiring going from the garage to the house. However the wireless router is close enough to get a good signal for sure.

I was going to power the camera from an extension cord thats already in the garage.
 
Sounds like you have a plan. Consider the ds-2cd2532f-iw, it's a nice little dome, has WiFi and PoE should you change your mind.

I just hope you don't get into legal trouble if your house say catches on fire and it comes back to an illegal use of an extension cord. I personally have too much to risk by not doing something to code, but some don't care and I admire the tenacity from a safe distance, LOL.

400.8 Uses Not Permitted.

It's very hard finding decent WiFi cameras because most are junk made for the consumer market or for indoor use. But here's what I have -

Dahua's new WiFi 1080P bullet - http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hfw1200s-w-920.html Don't know the price as it's very new.

If overall quality is not important, then consider Foscam, they have been making WiFi cameras for years. The FI9805W is 1.3MP and cheap, maybe $140ish.

If overall quality is very important, consider Brickcom, the WOB-200Np, about $800ish. They make some of the best WiFi cameras out there.
 
I just installed the sircam ap005 and for some reason when I go to control it the movement is very slow from (up,down,left,right) can someone tell me why its like this and also I cant figure out why the built in mic is not working help me anybody....
 
go with foscam. I have the sircam ap005 and the pan speed is very slow and it also glitches a lot.

Its likely because its a junk camera...so is foscam...stay away from these crappy brands...its not worth the hassle..IF you really need ptz (which is rare) spend the money and go with dahua or hikvision..otherwise stick with fixed cameras...

If you read the specs for that camera, slow is how it rolls with 5-50 degree pan per second, ouch, the Dahua I mentioned earlier is 300 degrees per second. Also, when the control of the camera is competing for the same WiFi signal as video, it's not going to turn out pretty. Judging by the reviews on Amazon, seems like an awful camera. If you can return it, that would be my advice.
 
Why do you not like Foscam? Just asking because I came across the Foscam FI8919W and after watching the video below it seems like it would pan/tilt fast enough for me.

I realize I would get no zoom/audio but thats okay with me.

Foscam cameras a simply subpar...the model you mention has horrible vga resolution and uses bandwidth hogging mjpeg compression instead of h.264....you seem to be using the camera for security purposes, forget about PT unless you plan on manning the camera 24/7...
