Hi all! I am currently running BI demo on my old i7 920, 2.8Ghz PC. The pc is running between 50% to 70% all the time. is it normal? it is so noisy while the PC is next to my bedroom. is there a silent pc to run BI or is it worth to upgrade?

@KhMeRA I moved this thread to it own topic.
There are two reasons why this is happening. First, direct to disk mode MUST be enabled for all multimegapixel cameras. Direct to disk is not functional in demo mode. The cpu usage difference is huge.
Second, The i7-920 is and older power hungry processor and is not suitable for blue iris. The 920 also requires a dedicated video card which adds to noise and power consumption and cannot take advantage of blue iris hardware acceleration that requires intel HD with quicksync.
A 300 haswell i5-4590 based optiplex or elitedesk pc will be way more powerful, WAY more efficient (will pay for itself in 1-2 years), and will be whisper quiet. Its worth the upgrade, it will pay for itself.

I currently run a i7-6700 Dell 7040MT. The basic unit cost me $650.00 which included a 3-year warranty. I have to put my ear on it to hear any case noise. And the machine is S M O K I N' fast. I did add a Samsung EVO850 SSD drive for the OS (+175.00). Boot up -- after the BIOS routine completes -- takes only a few seconds and -- at this point in time -- my impression is that I generally have to wait for the software to complete it's routines (or my internet connection to fulfill the request) but I'm never waiting on the machine. The other advantage of the 7040MT is that it is a VERY diminutive case size (unlike most of the other machines I owned or ran over the past 32 years). Highly recommended.

Worth it? That has to be your call bro.

@fenderman. thanks for respond. how come you didn't recommend Skylake CPU? is there any drawback beside pricing? I am thinking about building a skylake i7 6700K since I already have some case and psu and ssd alaready. I am plan to run at least 16 Hik 4MP cameras. Today Dell has Skylake i7 for $580 http://dealnews.com/Dell-Inspiron-Skylake-Core-i7-Quad-3.4-GHz-PC-for-579-free-shipping/1725992.html. and i5 haswell for $350 http://dealnews.com/Dell-Vostro-Haswell-Core-i5-Quad-3.2-GHz-PC-for-349-free-shipping/1725956.html. For my application, which one should I get?

Its just price. You can generally now buy an optiplex i7-6700 for 599 on ebay, with 3 year warranty. Its better than the inspiron.

Are you talking about Dell optiplex 9020 micro? does it have Sky-lake CPU or 4th Gen?
