I have 4 Dells that have been really good so I don't think of them as bottom of the barrel, as to the price, it sounds good to me but I'll appreciate more knowledgeable folks chiming in here.

I know Dell is pretty much Bottom of the Barrel but opinions on this for BI?
Hi @Elgato54

Specs from that box look good .. Dell Inspiron .. I would check to see if you can add another HDD to that easily for video storage ..

In general I like the Optiplex line better as they tend to be more robust ..

I just looked at some of the benchmarks and this I5 beats the I7-8700K in almost every one. Pretty impressive. Even without an additional 3 1/2 drive slot you could just
upgrade the 1TB drive. Seems like a lot of hardware for $500 new and its small.

That looks like a fair price. The SSD is a plus and the secondary 1tb would be good enough for most people. Decent processor. I've had a Dell laptop for about 15 years and it still going strong.

Isn't the Optiplex the business line and Inspiron retail? I know that often they are the same hardware but the retail SW is loaded up with crap.

Big question is can you build anything better for $500. It would be hard.

Inspiron from my experience the hardware was not as durable as the Optiplex hardware .. and yes extra software bloat on retail customers ..

That stated, I have seen some really bad Dell Laptops sold to enterprises .. some had about a 30-60% replacements required for their trackpads .. so quality does vary and you can get lemon models / runs on any hardware platform ..

FYI - Dell configurator not allowing me to reproduce this exact configuration ..

does look like a deal from Costco still .. as the lower price from Dell is $549 and does not include the 1TB HDD nor the same amount of RAM ..

Question is what are you going to do with it? You can run BI with a lot of cams well now on a much lesser system for a lot less money so you may not need that much. Nothing wrong with a better computer if you want it and want to spend the extra money though.

FYI, I'm running BI on an HP Elite 800 - G1 w. Intel i7-4770 @ 3.40ghz and 16gb ram The OS is w10. BI runs 11 cams and generally runs abt 10% or less cpu. It's also running Deepstack I got the system on eBay for under $200 I did add the 500gb ssd which added some to the cost

I have an older I7-3770 with an SSD and a 1TB drive. It would probably be fine for 5 cameras. It is in an old Corsair case that is huge and probably draws a lot more power.
The idea of an appliance size PC with current hardware, windows 11 and a warranty is attractive. Normally I do not care for pre made retail PC's but to build something comparable
would cost around $800 or more.
