Im about to buy some outdoor cameras but not sure what to go with regarding plastic or metal housings? Can the plastic versions handle UV/direct sunlight ok? I have had metal ones in the past and the powder coating has begun to peel off which is not a good look. What are you all using out in the weather and how long has it lasted?

What specific cameras are you referring to?

Whats wrong with no name cameras? isn't the ONVIF protocol meant to allow different brands to work together?

In theory yes. In practice not even close. There is also a HUGE difference in image quality, build quality and most importantly sustained on time with no glitches.
Buying no name junk cameras is penny wise pound foolish, unless you are simply using cameras for non essential tasks like looking in on your pet or kids.
