Arnonz, the Splitter I was referring to "splits" the poe ethernet into a) ethernet and b) power.
If you want to support two cams on one cable, you can separate the 8 conductors into two sets of 4. This will support two 100Mb cams. Several posts on this. See:

got your meaning now.
and yes, I do know how to use the 4 wires (1,2,3,6). By the way, I still have few such old cables.
what i meant is that my splitter is probably doing it. fortunately, I didn't need to use it. bought it cause I was afraid I'd find a dead cable.

Maybe because some people don't use PoE. If nothing else, it does provide a handy way to test a failure to see if the PoE portion of the camera has failed.

As well as initial set up I used the 12v supply when testing locations along with a power line adapter.
