Problem with Hikvision 2642 Vari-Focal Bullet

I recently installed a 2642 camera connected to an NVR. At night, the picture will suddenly go very dim (as if the IR illuminator output went very low). During the day, the picture will suddenly go very bright, almost totally white. In both cases, the image returns to normal within a few seconds. I cannot tell if this in response to a motion event, or if this causes a motion event. Please let me know of any ideas. Thanks.

That symptom sounds a little like what was discussed here, cured with some updated firmware:

Your camera has the 4MP sensor with the WDR capability.

Thanks so much. That sounds exactly like my problem. I didn't find that thread in my earlier searching.
