SACRAMENTO – California State Assemblyman Carl DeMaio is offering to help Governor Gavin Newsom avoid criminal prosecution by formally asking U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and California Attorney General Rob Bonta to provide legal advice to the Governor on how to fully comply with the convoluted and draconian gun laws that he has signed into effect.
“It would be an absolute shame if Governor Gavin Newsom inadvertently violated one of his own anti-gun laws – but the extraordinary hassle he now faces proves not only that he is a hypocrite but that the draconian gun laws he imposed on regular Californians should be scrapped,” DeMaio said.
The controversy over the gun gift started when Newsom appeared on The Shawn Ryan Show podcast – and the host gifted the Governor a SIG Sauer P365 X-Macro. On the show, Newsom appeared to accept the firearm and even claimed he was “not anti-gun.”
But DeMaio’s office has now learned that off camera Newsom rejected the gift because of compliance rules and left the firearm behind in Tennessee. Newsom’s team has since admitted that the California anti-gun laws are so complicated that they have had to hire legal counsel to conduct a legal review.
DeMaio questions whether the Governor will ever actually follow through in legally accepting it.
DeMaio thinks that Governor Newsom should get the very best legal advice – which is why DeMaio has sent a letter to Bondi and Bonta urging them to help Newsom comply with the complicated anti-gun laws he has imposed on California.
Would have loved if he did take it on the plane back to CA. Any interstate transfer of a firearm must be handled though an FFL.
I totally looked into this several years ago when I wanted to gift my brother a 22lr cowboy-action revolver. He lived in AZ and I am in TX. I would have had to ship it to an FFL in AZ and he would have had to go there to fill out the forms and pick it up. The closest FFL to his place in a little town not far from the Mexican border was over 100 miles away.

Bondi: “This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ,” she added. “You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”
Sean Charles Dunn, who hurled a Subway sandwich at a federal agent in Washington, DC, earlier this week, has been fired from his DOJ role, according to US Attorney General Pam Bondi.
