No more than 8 ports needed plan on 4 max in use. POE

Most powerful main cam is this and will be remaining this. Hope to take advantage of AI
4MP Enhanced Starlight Network Mini PTZ Camera (4x Zoom)

I am able to buy 8TB WD Purpz or 12TB if supported.

So here is the OEM - I have noticed these models are not on EBAY and am not sure how to compare them. Since I feel my need is non pro I am looking into this.

Ebay Dahua 4K 16MP 8CH 8PoE AI NVR WizSense 8 Channel Video Recorder NVR4108HS-8P-EI | eBay
Dahua 4K 16MP 8CH 8PoE AI NVR WizSense 8 Channel Video Recorder NVR4108HS-8P-EI

Can anyone help me decide or recommend?

I recommend Empire Tech (@EMPIRETECANDY ) over any eBay vendor any time and for any NVR's or cameras (OEM'ed by Dahua).:headbang:

Hi @Camtalkerz104

I like the pro series NVRs from Dahua OEM better ( 5xxx series vs the 4xxx series - haven't kept up with model tho so you may need to ask others about "AI" versions ) .. EmpireTech should have one ..

Also I like to get more ports as typically once you get cameras you realize one camera can not do as much work as you first imagined ..

IF this is your first setup, I recommend getting one good 4MP 1/1.8" sensor varifocal Dahua OEM or hikvision oem camera and a small poe switch, length of cat5e/6 patch cable with 23 or 24 awg copper wires and testing it out. You will learn a lot more this way.

I would buy from Andy and SKIP EBAY as one NEVER KNOWS "what's inside" just like the
hacked "Dahua" Ebay and Amazon cameras.

Ive just ordered one of these brand new Dahua 5000-XI series from Alibaba. Original Dahua Nvr5208-8p-xi 8ch 1u 8poe 2hdds Wizmind Network Video Recorder - Buy Dahua Nvr dahua Network Video Recorder dahua Recorder Product on Alibaba.com

I had settled on the 5000-EI series as I wanted the internal power supply rather than the external brick. Then I saw the XI series and started to dig around.
The XI series from what I can tell, does AI on all channel's v's the previous EI series that could only do it on 1 or 2 channels. Yes I have AI on my Camera's but I figure if im investing in the future ill buy the latest and greatest with the most horsepower that I can afford. I only have 4 cameras, so ive got room to grow if I need it.

Dahua datasheet NVR5208-8P-XI - Dahua International

$342USD with a 30 day lead time.

Just remember that using the NVR AI instead of the camera AI can severely limit the capabilities of the NVR, and by some parameters in half. Next thing you know you need multiple NVRs.

Just because it is rated for 8 cameras doesn't actually mean it can actually handle 8 cameras if you are maxing everything out.

Where it really matters is bandwidth and decoding. The XI series:

Network BandwidthAI disabled: 384 Mbps incoming, 384 Mbps recording and 384 Mbps outgoing AI enabled: 200 Mbps incoming, 200 Mbps recording and 200 Mbps outgoing
Resolution32 MP; 24 MP; 16 MP; 12 MP; 8 MP; 6 MP; 5 MP; 4 MP; 3 MP; 1080p; 960p; 720p; D1; CIF; QCIF
Decoding CapabilityAI disabled: 2-channel 32 MP@25fps; 2-channel 24 MP@25 fps; 4-channel 16 MP@30 fps; 5-channel 12 MP@30 fps;8-channel 8 MP@30 fps AI enabled: 1-channel 32 MP@25 fps; 1-channel 24 MP@25 fps; 2-channel 16 MP@30 fps; 4-channel 12 MP@30 fps;6-channel 8 MP@30 fps; 8-channel 5 MP@30 fps

Versus the EI series:

Network BandwidthAI disabled: 384 Mbps incoming, 384 Mbps recording and 384 Mbps outgoing
AI enabled: 200 Mbps incoming, 200 Mbps recording and 200 Mbps outgoing
Resolution32 MP; 24 MP; 16 MP; 12 MP; 8 MP; 5 MP; 4 MP; 1080p; 720p; D1; CIF; QCIF
Decoding CapabilityAI disabled:
2-channel 32 MP@25 fps; 2-channel 24 MP@25 fps; 4-channel 16 MP@30 fps; 5-channel 12 MP@30 fps; 8-channel 8 MP@30 fps
AI enabled:
1-channel 32 MP@25 fps; 1-channel 24 MP@25 fps; 2-channel 16 MP@30 fps; 4-channel 12 MP@30 fps;
6-channel 8 MP@30 fps; 8-channel 5 MP@30 fps

As you see, they are the same...and the EI series is AI for 4 cameras on the 8 camera NVR, not 1 or 2.

On those stat's yes. I was going on stats like:

Perimeter Performance AI - 4 channels vs 8 channels
Face Detection Performance of AI - 2 channels vs 8 channels
Face Recognition Performance of AI by Recorder - 2 channels vs 8 channels

Whether ill use them at all - no idea. I figured id wait an extra month for the newer XI model and a few extra $$$ for the sake of future proofing somewhat.

Thats the best deal around for 5 series. Let us know how the bug or hack audit goes. I dont know what I am talking about, just repeating it from here.
