Hello first of all excuse me for my bad english, i'm doing my best of italian guy..... After having discovered this very interesting forum i decided to take the Blue Iris way for surveilling my home, actually i have the software installed on a 24/7 multimedia server based on a I5-4690S cpu, with 16 gb ram ( i also use this computer as dlna Plex server ), and with six 4mp Hikvision bullet cameras + three 1 mp Foscam 9821W cams, after all optimizations suggested here ( write to disk, hardware video acceleration and so on.... ) i have dropped the cpu usage from initial 90/95% to actual 45/50%, but having decided to purchase other 5/6 4mp Hikvision ip cams and selling the three Foscams i was thinking about a motherboard + cpu swap.... Reading here i see that i7-6700 would be a good choice, but, as the little difference in price, could the new Kaby Lake I7-7700 be a good alternative? 16 gb ram is enough or better thinking about 32 gb? With the new system i can expect to achieve a 40/50% cpu usage with the 12 cameras? Thanks in advance......

16gb of memory is way more than enough..might as well go with kaby lake, but keep in mind that you can get i7-6700 systems with 3 year next business day warranties for about 500 and likely less once kaby is made available.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply, i've checked, with about 500 euros a i7-6700 system is available also here in Italy, while a i7-7700 combo costs 200 euros more, i will go on the route you suggested me.....
