was going to use virtualisation actually

I am already using BI on my main gaming pc .... I game on it .. gaming performance gets bad when BI is recording but recordings so far are ok.
That is why I am offloading BI on a separate server

Listen to these gents, they know what they speak. PURPLE

are you sure?? A 60fps video file is usually much bigger than a 30fps video file and a 15fps video file is smaller than a 30 fps video file

that is because its encoded at a higher bitrate...file size is determined by bitrate only..that is an indisputable fact.

The FPS that works for you, lots of folks use 15, some use 10.
Buy the biggest HD you can afford.

Use the bitrate that gives you the quality you desire.

Best prices I can get in my country:

1TB WD purple = $70
2TB WD purple = $108
The WD purple seem overpriced; especially the 2TB :(

1TB WD red = $76
2TB WD red = $107.5
WD red are a bit better priced but you say it's not good for NVR recording?

HGST 3TB deskstar NAS = $130
HGST's price seems reasonable.
Have anyone tried HGST deskstar NAS? Is it good for NVR recording?

Really? You are struggling between red and purple over a 50 cent or six dollar difference? I suggest you shelve the entire project and save money for groceries...

I mean purple is overpriced according to us prices.
Red seems better priced..i didn't mean the difference between the 2

Thx for replying but If you don't have an answer no need to post or be sarcastic tbh (I don't mean to be rude .. thx for you advice so far)

Who cares about us pricing if you are not in the US...The price difference is 50 cents for you...

to clarify WD purple 2TB is like $79 on amazon while it's $108 here: $29 difference
while WD red 2TB is like $90 on amazon while it's $107.5 here: $17.5 difference
So WD red seems better value for money for me.

HGST 3TB deskstar NAS is $130 vs $120 on amazon. This is actually the best deal. That's why I asked if have anyone tried HGST deskstar NAS? Is it good for NVR recording?

Amazon prices are irrelevant...The price difference is irrelevant... Purple is the best drive for this application..
