Replacing Fan In Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/8P NVR

Looking through all the threads on the fan noise from this DS-7608 NVR I have a replacement in mind if indeed this fan is very noisy. I will go ahead and cut out a hole in the cover and mount a 120mm Scythe SY1225SL12L fan. It is rated at 800rpm, 40.17 cfm and draws .10 amp @ 12VDC. It is also rated at 10.7dba.

Near as I can tell the factory fan is 8000rpm and is rated 9.43 cfm and draws .15 amps @ 12vdc. So this Scythe fan draws four times the air, is very quiet and draws less power.

use 1 fan and the speed reducer with a 3pin to 2pin adapter for the case fan.
use the other fan for the fan in the power supply it does not require a speed reducer, but you will need to use the other 3 pin to 2pin adapter, but cut the end off the 2 pin plug as the plug on the PSU side is smaller, and 2 of the jelly crimps to connect the fan to the original fan plug.

Interesting andy.
Was there a way to try the original case fan with the speed reducer to see if it calms the noise down enough or is the Gelid way better?
My 7604 only has the 1 fan (case) anyway but the noise is a little more than I can take.

not sure, maybe if you can find one for a 2 pin fan.
 
I've done a bit of reading and dug through my old pc boxes and found a zalman fanmate 2 speed controller, its got a 3 pin in and out but the 3rd (white wire) is only a speed sensing one for the pc and can be dismissed, I disconnected the NVR fan and the fan 2 pin slots straight in the 3 pin zalman (red to red, black to black), the board side I just cut the white wire side of the connector block away so it fitted in the 2 pin slot, keeping the red/black wires the right way round.
All secured and fan speed reduced to a whisper, cover on, keeping an eye on temps but all seems well so far

any way to get temp via box? do they have sensors ?

I received my 7608 NVR yesterday. I plugged it in today to check out the fan noise. On my unit it is pretty quiet. I don't know if Hikvision has changed the fans because of complaints or not. If this is the loudest it gets than I can sure live with it. Ambient temperature was around 70F.
 
My Smart hdd temp was 29 deg c, after slowing the fan down it's stabilised at 32 deg c, this is on lowest dial speed on the controller, I can always up it a bit if it causes problems by getting any higher, but checking online seems to suggest a stable temp for hard drives is 25 to 40 deg c

thanks, that HDD temp, i was talking about system temp ?
 
No other temperatures I can see, but enclosed in a case you'd think one would impact on the other so keeping the hdd low should make the rest ok?

True, but it's in the enclosure so will be indicative, and not less than the environment it's in.
As far as I can see - there is no hardware temperature monitoring available to the kernel, checking under /sys/class, /sys/devices, /proc/devices
 
What about the fan inside the power supply? For me, that's by far the noisiest fan (with a high pitched whirr)
 
In my case the fan noise is not a problem. It turns out that my unit is very quiet. It is located in the garage with a wall separating the garage from the master bedroom. All is well thankfully.

for mine DS-7716NI-I4 16P, unfortunately no, i did not take any photos, but it is straight forward, take out PSU, take cover off PSU, remove the screws that hold in fan, and gently remove fan, now replace with new fan, it is a really tight fit, a little pressure has to be applied to squeeze the fan in the space, just take your time and have patients, it will go, then replace the screws and change the cable header from old fan.
