Review-Dahua IPC-HDW4831EM-ASE 4k turret

So Starvis? Is that the same chip as the 2mp "starlight cameras everyone brags on here?
I sure would like to be able to get the same night quality image as the 2mp starlights with a much higher res 8mp camera for clearer images when you ha e to zoom in on snapshots.

no, it will not perform well in low light. The starvis designation is meaningless.
The 1831 and 2831 8mp dahua cams have a larger 1/1.8 sensor and will be significantly better than this one but not as good as the 2mp starlight. Those however art not available in turret format. You need the 2831 if you want SD card and/or varifocal.

Cameraguy, did the camera come with mounting brackets, if not how did you mount the camera?

Are you still happy with the camera?

What kind of NVR are you using?

Mounted flush to wall. Already had a hole for pigtail.. you will need a mount if keeping pigtail on outside of wall.. yes great cam

Do you find the daytime image quality being too soft?

Thank you, initially I though you were suggesting saving money by purchasing a 4MP camera instead of 8MP. However, the camera’s are similar in price and I’ve notice others are also recommending the 5442 camera’s. I feel like I missing something.

My plan was to purchase 8MP, IP, POE, STARVIS/Starlight camera’s thinking they would last and not be outdates too soon.

The problem becomes that for a 4K camera to perform as well as a 2K camera in poor lighting the 4K needs a sensor size roughly double that of the 2K. That is available, but hold on to your wallet. Rule number one - chase sensor size and don't chase resolution.

Don't buy into the 4K BS. Because it is literally BS. The 4MP is the sweet spot at the moment and has the best of both worlds Day 'N' Nite

Thank you that’s great advice. How do I determine the sensor size? Do you look at the 1/x then select the sensor with the lowest 1/x number i.e. 1/1.8 is a larger sensor than 1/2.5?

That's how it works. Also, the larger sensor would also need a larger lens, I would think, so the sensor is fully exposed. The 5442 series uses the 1/1.8" sensor and works quite well. The 12.5" sensor works very well in a 2MP camera.
