I have received this camera in exchange for a fair and honest review.

We have the Dahua IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E AI Varifocal Bullet that will probably be the replacement for the IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E that everyone likes to use for License Plate Capture.

Video recorded and exported with Blue Iris.
This is a great cam for being a 2mp cam.
All settings at factory defaults except time and channel number.
Note the 1985 font that is used. ;) It can't be changed.
Sorry for the shakes at times, wind is really gusty.

More video to come for night time license plates and see if focus problems croup up. So far, I've not seen any, but I've also discovered my camera placement needs to be moved due to IR reflection issues at different zoom lengths at night.

@looney if you would during your video sessions let's see just how good the results are in extremely low light scenarios. Very curious. Our new house is going to be in an area with very little if any street lights at night although I do have the exterior house lights. Specs are pretty impressive to say the least and if the performance is there, it's going to be a great camera. Lots of new stuff coming from the looks of things, going to be a great year of new equipment to test.

Just out of curiosity as I'm still in the learning phase, is there a needed mechanical/physical difference inside the camera body between a bullet and turret? I love turrets more than bullets since smaller real estate and clean look. Maybe the larger bullets need more mechanics/electronics inside that would not work in a smaller bodied turret.

Were all still learning, and I can't specifically answer your question but I do know that some of the newer bullet style cams are big so the physical hardware size may cause problems cramming it into a turret style housing.

I think sensor sizes have been an issue.
Bigger sensors need bigger housings

Can you do some license plate testing at night? with either Ir or forced color? In comparison to the PTZ starlights, need to see how night time an day time license plate captures work (looking for about 100 feet or less.....

No worries! I just wasn't sure this was a part of your normal testing, and wanted to make sure that I got this in before you started or finished all your testing, thank you for doing this for all of us!
