Review-Dahua IPC-HFW7842HP-Z AI, ANPR Ultra 8MP Varifocal Starlight Cam

@MikeyTech8 the 5842 IS Pro AI as you mentioned so is cheaper as it doesn’t have the Ultra AI processing speed and functionality of the 7x42 series. Therefore things like ANPR etc would be lost in the 5842. The 5842 is best compared to the B5442 which is its 4MP brother in the same Pro AI range.

Hey @looney2ns ,

Just wondering, Is this camera quite similar to the "IPC-HFW5842H-ZHE"? I love the IPC-HFW7842HP-Z but I 'm thinking about going with the other option (IPC-HFW5842H-ZHE) since it is categorised as an Pro-AI Series which I think the price is cheaper?

Ah I see. Thanks for the clarification Wild. Makes more sense :D.

Just read through, looks like a great camera. Is there a minimum NVR model that cpuld handle this camera and all the features? If so, which would it be?

I would recommend a 5216. Remember these Ultra AI cams and features need NVRs that can support processing of these (assuming you want the high end AI functions they offer) vs some pro level AI features that can be supported elsewhere or are just an end result of an already processed stream. Therefore if purchasing a 7x42 cam definitely look into the AI capable NVRs.

Absolutely agree with Wildcat, the Dahua products work best with the products featured in Dahua's lineup :)

Is there any way to trigger an output with ANPR via this camera? I see this camera is advertised as an anpr camera but I can't see where to add a white list of number plates to use for access control.

Are you using an NVR ? If so can add white and blacklist plates there

Yep, it has been cured.

I will find out here soon. Been busy elsewhere.
Hi looney2ns, what firmware version fixed the Smart IR issue on your 7842? I've tried reading the rest of this thread but never saw a specific version listed that fixed the Smart IR problem in the 7842. I've recently purchased a 5842 from Andy (and I believe the 7842 & 5842 share firmware) and the Auto IR setting on my camera does nothing but give me completely washed out faces similar to your earliest tests of the 7842.

Just replied to your post in the AI firmware thread. 5/25 should work well for you but you may need to dial in the cam more as well (not sure of your current config). If you would like, reach out via DM and I can always jump on your cam, take a look, dial in as necessary.

Dahua is testing new products internally.
Used to replace HFW7842
Firmware name DH_IPC-HX8XXXX-Hawking_MultiLang_NP_Stream5_V3.000.0000000.1.R.2201070.zip

@kobebeef yes there will be S2 versions of the 7x42's that I'm eager to get hands on when they complete R&D. I've also fed back a number of things I feel the 7x42 series needs ASAP to make it rock solid in my testing
It is expected to be released in April.
I don't know what processor will be used to replace the Hi3519AV100
Last month just bought three IPC-HDBW7842HP-Z.

The biggest disadvantage of this HFW7842H is that there is no built-in MIC.
But you can try adding MIC yourself.
You need to dig a hole and find the corresponding wire to connect.

Finally remember to seal around the MIC for waterproofing.
When the front cover is closed, the built-in microphone is hidden.
The audio input line is the white red line next to the 16pin blue.
