Review - Dahua SD49225XA-HNR 2MP 25x Starlight + IR PTZ AI Camera with Deep IVS & SMD Plus

100% agree with @looney2ns on this. I do this for all cams and installs when upgrading/downgrading FW, it really is a must. I will also add that in some cases 3+ factory defaults are needed as ive seen some cams that get very possessive of their settings and don’t like to reset :)

Also want to note that when we say Factory Default that does mean blow away everything. Please don’t think that a regular reset (that still keeps network setup) is the same thing, it’s not. Do it right and you should be set. If you need help, just ask :)

I've always done this for updating firmware.
1-Set the camera back to factory defaults.
2-Load firmware update
3-Reset back to factory defaults again.
4-Never perform the updates from a laptop or other computer that is connected to your network via WiFi.
I've never had any issue's with this method.

@GuitarKin DM me and let’s go over some things to test and try on yours. Also let us know the main FW you are running (whether as shipped or upgraded) and the PTZ control FW it’s on.

My camera came these versions, not updated. Andy sends me same version that my PTZ version. So I didn't upgrade that.

System Version V2.800.0000002.3.R.P9.2522.UN.NR, Build Date: 2019-11-21
WEB Version V3.2.1.819501
ONVIF Version18.12(V2.4.5.729857)
PTZ Version V2.401.0000000.45.RHNZ_190815_33003

ok, DM me and we can run through some things see if it helps

Today I make a talking with @GuitarKin
He tried tour mode about 10 preset about 1-2hours for SD49425XB-HNR (None autotracking model), till now all working good. The ptz firmware still need some improvement , I will follow up.

@EMPIRETECANDY yes Guitar and I met up over DM yesterday to discuss test plan for his cam. All good at this time. Guitar and I will continue to test and discuss over DM and I’ll update on any new findings here too.

As you and I discussed Andy, I definitely think that Dahua should take a 2nd look at the 3D positioning code within both the Main FW & PTZ control FW as that may need some further tweaking / work.

For those that may not be familiar with this, it is this area of code that controls and updates the cameras position (and its understanding of where it is currently is) in 3D space. I know when Andy and I spoke that he is kindly following up with them again on this, THANKS Andy !

Another update from me for this thread is that the 49225 that I reviewed here is still going strong (with Auto Tracking) with no issues, no preset slip seen since I upgraded to 8/19. Still running tours (2 tours with 14 presets now per tour, 28 total), Deep IVS with Auto Track and manual duties daily without any problems. To clarify for all, I did put this cam on 11/21 FW but rolled back to 8/19 for testing and as mentioned no issues.

I will continue to test the cam here and will also be trying a 2nd 49225 and report back any updates but again as of this posting working extremely well and certainly goes toe to toe and exceeds some other PTZs which for a cam in this class is impressive !

I purchased this camera a couple of weeks ago from Andy and so far its auto tracking has been working fine.

However I did run into an issue with presets. If I set a tripwire or intrusion zone on this camera or another camera to trigger the PTZ to a preset it goes there like expected but then never returns to it's home preset. It also wont auto track from this "stuck" position. I set it up following the Feb 2019 guide from jmcu.

I have the idle time set to 1 min and both idle and reboot are set to the "home" preset. If I move the camera with manual PTZ controls is returns to the home preset after a minute, just not if its triggered from a tripwire or intrusion zone. I also tried turning off recording on all channels from any trigger - I remember something about that potentially causing issues with presets.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

First try creating a new ‘home’ (I like this to be preset 1 that I use for testing true home on any PTZ) for the cam and see if a preset with the same coordinates (0.0 and angle 45) works when recalled that way. Can set your or idle and power up to point to that preset if you want OR can just manually call back to that preset. Set this up, restart PTZ and then DM me with any questions if that helps.

also please confirm if you built presets in camera web GUI or NVR

Thanks for the quick replies Wildcat_1!

After several presets, I did set it up with preset 1 as my "home" position. Initially I was using the cameras web GUI but later starting using the NVR. Preset 1 was currently set by the NVR.

On that note - which is preferred - web GUI or NVR?

Thanks.

Always camera GUI for main setup. I always notice folks trying to configure their cameras first via BI and/or NVR. You need a test-bench before actually deploying in a working environment

If you are willing, I would suggest opening up the cam to see if it's possible something simple is causing this. When I first received my 59229 ptz, while putting in the SD card, I found a wiring harness that was partially under one of the belts. I re-positioned the harness and all was good. QC at the factory is far from perfect.
It saddens me that Dahua has not learned it's lesson's on proper firmware testing and QC overall. These sort of problems have been on going for sometime and shouldn't be.
Maybe one of the desiccant bags has shifted and is in the belt-works

I asked Andy @EMPIRETECANDY if he had any of this December, 2019 (old stock left); unfortunately no stock available :( Looks like I will have to resort to the SD59xx series now

If anyone wants to sell me their Dahua SD49225XA-HNR (Build date Dec. 2019 or Older and purchased from Andy), please PM me, thank you

Dec 2019 build date running 8/19 FW (my personal favorite FW for this cam currently). This one has Auto Tracking as well so is one of the last batch to have before Dahua disabled in my opinion.

I think no one will sell it. lol. The last 4 autotracking model sold off this morning. Future there will be no stock that can support the autotracking for the SD49XX-HNR.

I have tested my camera a lot and now it's seems to work very well. Anyone who doesn't have autotracking you can build it yourself :). I made it using tripwires to control PTZ presets. Im happy for this how it's works. Now camera follow presets very well and preset failure is so far gone. Thanks @EMPIRETECANDY and @Wildcat_1 for help. My camera is working after I used that my tour trick:). Check the autotracking video.

This is definitely how it should be setup. Now that I think of it, autotracking should only be advertised if these PTZ's have some sort of 360 degree motion detector; this way the camera has the ability to "automatically" pan, tilt, and zoom, based on the predefined parameters (i.e. size, object specificity, etc) set by the end-user; otherwise autotracking is gimmicky as the vast majority here says; there should some disclaimer * that further configuration will be necessary. For the folks just starting, autotracking is not intended to work out of the box ;)
