Review-IP Villa Outdoor Doorbell Station & Indoor Monitor Kit

Let me check if have any way to bring it back. You are using VDP configure tool to make the update ?
correct, from the Dahua Toolbox

just checked with dahua , the vth can’t use serial port updating way to get it back, have to return to factory . So better check with me before you make update.

are what I used from the Dahua website. Be Wary :)
was thinking of getting 4 or 5 of the VTH's put around the house (1 in each bedroom, kitchen, garage workshop). Can I purchase just the VTH's themselves?

yes, can be ok. We have it.

luckily, was just a $75-$80 mistake instead of $200 IP camera mistake. Lessons learned.

We tested all firmware before releasing, you know we brick it, it's very easy to fix up.
Right now we can fix up the NVR42,52 series in USA, the VTH not easy to do.

Isn't it as simple as swapping out a single 0.25 cent chip? :)

this unit looks great... but would want to go with the flush mount kit.

also, dont really need the poe switch, or the extra monitor.

Wow, that cam has a bad case of fish eye.
keep in mind that here you get to see the doorbell view as if it was ordinary IPC. it's not. many times the location for the doorbell is 90 degrees to the door and you have a situation of very short distance and a need of a very wide view. it would alway cause fish eye.
since you'd like to see the person the stands very close to the cam, and may choose to stand not exactly in the square that you expected him to stand, and that person may be tall or a boy.... there is no other way but to use a wide angle and to get fish eye. All doorbells are doing that compromise for a good reason.

did order 2 more VTH's (#3 will be RMA'd eventually) from Andy. With the virus stuff, should get here in a week or less. Will get to do more testing and figuring out when they arrive. Did mention to Andy that EVERYONE has complained about the 1080p substream quality. He will look into it.
Did notice my KTP01 kit came via FedEx this time around, not the usual DHL.

last time i checked andy only sold it as a kit
I initially asked Andy how these items were sold. He told me he only sells as a kit to get the VTO. So that means I had to buy 1 VTO, 1 VTH, 1 Poe switch (which I am thinking to donating to someone here as I have no need for it). However once you buy the kit you can buy as many VTH monitors. I myself will have 3 VTH's.

Received my kit today. Tried to do a fast quick setup. That little piece of paper gave me a headache. May try again tomorrow to read more slowly.
I think I have the config stuff setup right except when I try to monitor the VTO, it says "network abnormal monitor failure". So maybe config is not right. Ug.
Tried to find a video on setting this thing up... only 1 YouTube video was found. DIdn't help much. Ah well...will try again tomorrow.
VTH version is : 20191209 v4.400.0000000.7.R
VTO version is: 2020-02-21 V4.410.0000000.4.R Security Baseline Version: v2.0
I can log into the VTO and see the livestream camera image, so at least I know the camera works :)
My benchtop evaluation setup has the same problem with constant "Network abnormal monitor failure!" errors. Always happens from Digital VTH when attempting Monitor -> Door -> Main VTO -> "Play". Rebooting does not fix this error.

Workaround: Calling the VTO from the Digital VTH by using Call -> Contact -> VTO -> "Call" works most of the time. I managed to get the network error which had required a reboot to fix. Could be finger problems but I question stability of this solution.
