Main portion of the cam is still made of metal, but the shroud and the mounting base is plastic.
Instead of a set screw, in it's place it has a push button to release the shroud. The push button is finicky in getting it to release the shroud. When all assembled, the shroud does not hold the ball tight enough to prevent the cam from being moved. Overall, the camera is not nearly as secure as the metal base and metal shroud provides.

This cam has a built-in mic and speaker, plus it has auxiliary audio in and outputs, that can be selected in firmware. It has built in wave files that can be triggers via events in the camera that play out the speaker.

Daytime Video

All settings factory defaults. Recorded and exported with Blue Iris.
30fps, 4096 bit rate.

Night Video
The speaker volume on the camera is at factory default of 50%
The siren sound can easily be heard 100ft away.
The voice files are lower, and good for 30-40ft.

Forced Color, only post lamp on, siren and flashing light test.

Post Lamp off, B&W, Cams IR on, White Light on cam set to flash on alert.

Cams IR turned on, Cams White Light set to stay on solid for 10 sec, Audio file changed from alarm.
Then no IR, and white light set to come on for 10 sec.
Next, cam forced to color, you will note that IVS can't see well enough to trigger the alert.
Last, forced color with white light on cam on.

Sound and sight from my point of view.

Sound from 30ft away on another camera.

Interested to hear more about this, particularly regarding the projection of the speaker and if it would be audible effectively from say 3-4 metres away.

Regarding the "loose balls" ... would it fit into the metal base of any other lower-end Dahua cams?

@looney2ns Thank you for the review!! :)

How is the picture quality (day & low light) compared to the HDW5231R-ZE?

Is it possible to put the loose ball into the metal shroud and mounting base of the HDW5231R-ZE?

How does the white LED strobe Light looks like? Do you think it could deter a burglar or is it more like a gimmick? (Would it be possible to upload a video with strobe light on?)

This kind of new camera use new hardware, so can't put inside the old models anymore,as i know IPC-HDW5231R-Z and IPC-HDW5231R-ZE has same size.

Let's wait @looney2ns to finish the testing, he got the camera on Friday and Staturday posted all daytime testing.

Interesting alarm audio with available custom audio files feature. Wondering is there a setting to set alarm to play only during customized hours like only after midnight? Or an event or IVS detection at a certain time that will trigger the alarm audio?

Curious too. The Active Deterrence in the 1831C-PIR supports that, so hopefully these do too.

Yes, by setting different IVS rules. You can assign times to when the rules are active, thus choose when sound is active with which rule.
The white light can be scheduled independent of different rules.
If the rain ever stops, I'll get night video.

Two locations to use conduit.

Duh, just realized I had the cable grommet on the wrong side of the plate. See correction below.

Awesome videos. Thank you for your efforts. Looks like it has the no smart IR problem again? Can that newest firmware that Andy posted couple weeks ago address it for this camera?
