Excellent info.

EmpireTech PTZ5A4M-25X seems like a great bang for the buck.

thats all above my pay grade right now.

That is one I don't have (wish I did but I max out around $450 LOL), but everyone here that has it loves it. And yes you can spotter cam it.

It is basically the 5442 series as a PTZ and that is a popular camera series.

I've noticed, over the past few months, that the PTZ is extremely laggy. It typically takes (in BI) 5-6 second before the camera starts moving when I manually use PTZ. When I click on a BI preset, it can take up to 20 seconds to move to that preset.
If I use the camera's GUI and click on a manual ptz movement, it's about 5 seconds there before it moves. A PTZ preset in the GUI takes 4-5 seconds.
I read in an earlier thread moving to 264H mostly fixed someone's problem, but it didn't fix mine.
I have the camera set to restart once weekly.
For the record, I appear to have the current firmware (attached).
Any suggestions or explanations?

Which model are you talking about? The mini-ptz?

@wittaj and I did some comparison testing a while back... trying to find it.

Seems we saw a .5-1.5 sec lag from activation via IVS rule or spotter command using my NVR. More in BI
5-6 seconds seems very long

Glad you mentioned tracking. It seems to track well with no issues or delays. My issue just seems to be with manually using the PTZ or PTZ presets.

So when its activated by a IVS rule it responds quickly? Only lag is using manually?

Then thats a network bottleneck or BI delay

That appears to be my case. This cam is pointed toward the street in front of my house (50'). A person walking, running by, it quickly tracks them. Same thing with a car that is going normal speed but of course a fast car it doesn't have time to react and track them effectively but it still attempts to. When I uploaded the firmware version page here, I mentioned that I had the latest firmware but I'm not sure if the PTZ firmware update was included in that general firmware update from Dec 2024. I can't find any ptz firmware updates separately so I assumed it was included.

I think I'd agree with you. but then again, I didn't remember making any significant config changes to that camera or making the connection of the PTZ delay if I did make any changes. Nothing comes to mind.

I'm running old (original?) fw from '22 - works fine so I dont mess with it

Have you tried reboot your router and network switch to see if the lag goes away? I have to reboot my switch once when I run into some lag problem with one of the ptz. Although the lag is not as bad as yours, maybe 2-3 seconds long. It goes away after reboot of the switch.
