Review-SD4A425DB-HNY 1/2.8" CMOS 4MP 25x Starlight Auto-tracking MiniPTZ

Wait, there is a fan inside the camera?

67 degrees here in Fla and mines showing 122 degrees. It routinely runs 130-160 degrees in the summer

I enabled the overlay and mine is sitting at 131* F (55* C). While it's indoors, I am using the recessed mount, so it's half in the attic, although under 18" of blown in insulation. Looking at the Dahua datasheet, it says the operating temperature is up to 65* C, so I've got 10* of headroom, but that's not much. It's unlikely I could clip the fan, which leaves either trying to add a voltage regulator to drop the RPM (or find some way to modify speed via CLI/SSH/etc.), or swap out the fan altogether with something else.

I will admit that I have a Mini PTZ that the fan was going bad on, So I thought I would try to run it without it for a short time while I waited for a replacement that I ordered from Noctua and the camera lasted about 40 to 60 seconds after it booted up before it went offline.. So I put the bad fan back in and dealt with the noise until the new fan got here.. Have had to replace a few of my Samsung camera fans but they are very old cameras so what do I expect they have lasted me much longer then they were designed to last I am guessing lol..

I wouldn't disable it, there is a reason for the fan, maybe replace it with a good Noctua fan HERE
Yea, if I was going to replace it with anything, it was going to be a Noctua.

Has anyone done a fan replacement for this camera or know the right fan size? Are they all fairly standard?

I want to try and get all the information first before I go up and pull the camera down, as I want to know if it’s possible first. The plastic flush mount ring seems to be a consumable as the grommets I think you have to cut/break to remove it and I don’t want to have to buy another one or design/3d print one for no reason.

Anyone seen a black blob on the images of their camera or other Dahua for that matter? I have 12 cameras from Andy, and this is the first one that has seemingly some sort of black speck inside the lens. I mounted the camera in late December after our daughter was born, and I just now noticed that there's a black blob in the image that stays completely static even when panning around. The lens is clear, and the fact that when you change the elevation it stays in place, confirms it's inside the housing somewhere. I did try wiping the lens with a microfiber cloth just in case, but that didn't really do much of anything. I emailed Andy to see what his thoughts are, but not really sure what options exist, as I don't want to open it up and void the warranty and if it's inside the lens, I'm not sure if that's even user serviceable.

Dang. Is it common with this specific camera or did I just get lucky with all my other ones?

Is there anything you can do about it, aside from exchange?

Its on the inside of the lens. Cant do it yourself, at least I wouldnt. I've learned to live with it.

I have seen 3 now on this model so yeah I think its a manufacturing issue, or was

It is just luck of draw. My mini doesn't have one but my other PTZ does.

If one is willing, you could probably take it apart and blow it out, or make it worse and add more. Don't ask me how I know that LOL

Just checked mine and no black dots yet.
I will say this, last time I cleaned the bubble it most definitely needed it but you could see it looking directly at it. But after cleaning they were gone. But I have noticed that light has a tenancy to bounce around causing stray reflections. but this doesn't result in black blobs, I don't think.

Mine showed up after about a month of use. I am guessing the movement of the PTZ knocked a microscopic piece of dust or maybe a frayed IR gasket lint or something and made its way inside on the lens.

This is inside the lens. Its not dust or dirt or smudge. I've taken the bubble off and its a clearly visible spot behind the lens itself

I have repaired a few of these type issues. Would require taking the camera out of the body/housing and then taking the module apart seeing normally the camera board is inside the module cage. Once having lens and camera out of the cage taking care to remove the main board off the lens. Then would need to remove 2 screws that hold the camera sensor to the lens. Normally it will be on the Sensor and from the picture is what it looks like where the issue is. Using a lens duster I carefully cleaned off the sensor and the issue was gone.. Only 1 time I had to take the lens apart. normally things can't get in there but bought the camera used and was reported as Referb. So come to find out they replaced the ICR and doing so must have introduced the micro dust that made it hard to see through the cameras lens after a couple of months of pan/tilt action and things moving as they do in a speed dome lol.. Thought ok lets see if on the ICR, it wasn't it was in the lens. Lucky for me I was able to take it apart as some won't come apart by design..

Problem is. If your dust part is on the sensor and you Pan down alot you might want to have the dust removed from the sensor before it falls into the lens. Normally because of the sensor power the particles can stay on the sensor but just the right day and right speed action to panning down could move the particle into the lens and then things can get even worse looking for your image and harder to remove.. No matter where it is if you or had someone remove it, will want to make sure it is in a dust free area seeing it can pickup dust very easy not seen by the naked eye yet able to be seen in the cameras image very easy..

Here is from 2020 or 2021 when I took apart one of Amcrest 841v3 cameras that I bought used with what was being called a bad sensor. I still use this camera today with clean picture after fixing.. Think I bought it for 5 bucks or something like that lol..

been out of the PTZ game for a while now.. pretty much ever?

but anyone has thoughts on a nice PTZ that andy sells for maybe 450-600 ?
